2nd & 3rd Generation - S130/Z30/Z31

Second and Third generation: Nissan ZX (S130/Z30/Z31)

  1. I couldn’t find this via a search so I thought I would share my findings the thread size for the fitting that leaves the turbo oil t-block (originally hardline to the turbo) is: m12x1.0 I used a m12x1.0 to -4an adapter and works perfect for my turbo oil feed line. cheers!

  2. I'm getting some big clunks from the rear end and would like to ask you guys before I tear it down. R200 3.90:1, OBX limited slip with all the corrections done to it with about 6,000 mi on it, axles are from a 1983 ZX turbo. As you can see in the video the P/S axle is the worst and also quite a lot of movement on the driveshaft. The OBX was installed by a professional differential shop, the wipe pattern was perfect and bearings and seals were replaced at the same time.

Anyone know where I can get replacement cushions for my 83 NA 2+2? None of the regular Z car part suppliers seem to have them. Nissan dealer is worthless on older cars. Tried to contact Nissan about the now defunct Vintage Restoration Program with no luck.Took the car to our best local auto upholstery place and they indicated that it would be difficult (if not impossible) to shape new cushions in the correct shape because the stock ones have bands built-in to make them hold their shape. My covers are in good condition - just need the pads underneath. My car has the velour upholstery if that makes any difference, and I probably only need the front seats since no one would …

  4. I am restoring my '82 2+2 and looking for a supplier for the exact material used in the originals. Many of you are aware that in the top section which is suede has the ZX logo in it. I was hoping to find some of the original material or someone reproducing it. Also, the lower part would be nice, although I've found some close colors. Fortunately, my rear seat is in great shape, but if I can't find the perfect match for the front seats, I will need to redo the rear seats. Appreciate any help.

I looked a '82 ZX today and I liked a lot of things about it but one. It doesn't run but that does not concern me. It has minimal rust, headliner is falling. Here's the rub, both floorboards are wet and it smells musty inside. I've owned a 280zx that leaked after a new windshield install. I currently own a 280z that leaked from the cowl rust around the intake chimney. Question. What is the most likely location of leak on one of these? One clue could be the forward edge of the dash is surface rusty. The price is right but I don't want to rebuild another cowl. I appreciate any input.

I'm rebuilding the power steering pump on my '83 280zx and there is a snap ring on the back with no visible way of removing it. I'm hoping someone else has done this before and knows the trick. The front one is a circlip with two holes. That was fairly easy. This back one has straight ends, not beveled and no room behind it to fit any pick tool. It doesn't even slide in the groove. The rebuild kit didn't include one even though the FSM says not to reuse it. Any ideas?

So I believe the ECU on my 1980 280zx went bad, so I ordered a new one off of ebay to test it. But there was a problem: they sent me one for an for a 1981 280zx. I was going to send it back, but before I did that I thought I'd ask; would it work on my car? I did some research online and found that it should, but I didn't get anything definite. Does anyone know if the one year difference in the make of the ECU will affect that car? The plugin looks the same if that makes any difference. The part number I got was A11-618-427. I believe the part number I need A11-604-420

Bad Dog Parts has gotten our hands on a set of 280 ZX2+2 NLA set of frame rails and we are in the process of making replacement rails that could be put over existing rails or as a complete replacement. A 2 + 2 ZX rail is only a few inches longer than ones for a coupe so we will be able to make coupe rails as well. Production rails will be made from 13 gauge steel while our prototypes will be made of 16 or 18 gauge to allow for easier trimming during rough fitment. If you are interested in helping us we would be happy to provide you with a free set of "production" rails. We ask that you test fit our prototype rails and report back to us any modifications or changes th…

In another thread, car54280zx posted pictures of a fabulous restoration. The cost of this restoration was not stated, but another member posted that a friend paid $140,000 Cdn for a similar restoration. This 280ZX is now better than new. When this much is spent, is it legal and ethical to reset the odometer? I have gone back 10 years of posts, and this question has not been asked previously.

I have a 1980 280zx and it when I put the key in to on position, the fuel pump turns on and floods the engine with gas, causing the engine to lock in place. Any idea of what might be causing that?

  12. Hi there. New to the forum. Got a 1980 280zx a few months ago and I'm trying to sort out some dash issues. The only guage that works is the speedometer. Fuel, tach, temp, oil, voltage, and the clock all do not work. No dash lights either. I've checked my fuses in the passenger footwell and I've cleaned the battery and chassis ground. Any advice on what to try next and/or if these problems are related?
