2nd & 3rd Generation - S130/Z30/Z31

Second and Third generation: Nissan ZX (S130/Z30/Z31)

  1. Hi, I'm a newbie from the Seattle area, but definitely a Nissan guy. I own a 1997 D21 XE KingCab with a mere 112,000 miles. It''s like new, has NO issues at all. Wife drives a 1998 Pathy, but she's going for an Xterra soon. The problem I have is with my just-purchased1982 ZX. (Two seater, five speed, non turbo) Starts up and runs great, sure. A few blocks later, it just dies cold. Engine cranks, but no start. An hour or so later, it starts right back up and then does the same thing a few blocks later. This one is worth fixing up, too. Body straight, no issues with clutch, engine, no smoking or knocking. Only 126K on it, new five speed tranny, and a paid a meas…

I'm converting a 280ZX to a convertible with a new LS1 engine. With to much work already done, I'm now disappionted with choices I'm finding for the suspension and brake upgrades. I also don't like the angled trailing arm rear suspension. Has anyone ever converted to the Z rear suspension to a ZX or any other good ideas?

Did a search, not much out there for the t-top cars. Anybody know who may have some? I have the t top seals from ZCardepot, but cant find the entire lower door seal. Thanks.

My questions is specific to a non-digital dash 280zx (1981 model). Has anyone installed a MSD box and got their stock tach to work without the need to install the tach convertor? . Car is starting and running fine, just can't figure out why the tach is not getting a correct signal. Tach is not registering a signal at all. If a tach convertor is needed in this application, can someone recommend a specific part number/model? I've seen several discussions on MSD with older Z models but not for 280zx applications.

I’m trying to source this part but I’m not sure what the exact name is. This part sits between the tail lights on the 280zx turbo. It’s rare and am having a hard time finding it.

Hey gang, I will be working on a friend's 1981 280zx over the weekend but after looking at a few FSMs for 208zxs (on nicoclub & xenonzcar) they don't seem to have the ET Engine Tuneup chapter that comes in my 1978 FSM. I know they're both L28 engines but are the tolerances, valve lash values, etc identical? Is there a different manual specifically that has the tuneup specs for the ZX cars or should I use the 1978 manual's ET chapter?

  7. PN A18-000 203 23710 F5910 works fine on my test stand, but has a hole next to the side mounted LED opening with what looks like a slotted round shaft. Its a pot, have not messed with it. I tried searching on the PN the 203 does not match with any thing. Talked to Jim Wolf tech support, they thought it could be a JDM thing, had not seen this either. since its a pot I don't think its for reading out data anymore. Its actually hooked up like a variable resistor (only two wires to the pot). The engine starts and runs fine, goes into closed loop (blinking of led after warm up an over 2k rpm). Below I started the video where I noticed the extra h…

My friend just picked up a 1982 280zx turbo with 99,004 miles on it for $500!!!! We pretty much got a steal on this car. It WILL run if you turn it over and spray starter fluid into the intake. So I know it's getting spark, and it actually idles alright for a few seconds after you spray the starter fluid in. I'm almost 100% sure that the injectors are stuck. I stripped some of the wire cover off two of the wires going to one of the injectors and put my volt meter on there to check. When he turns the car over, it shows voltage, so the injectors should be opening right? It has olllddd gas in it, but I know it's not getting into the combustion chamber because there's nothin…

So, I've been working on restoring a '79 280zx, and man, it's been a fight. But finally, it's running, it's ready to go, and so I thought that from here on out, it'd be all cosmetic. That is until I started testing my lights. Long story short, my right turn signal... With the lights on (parking or head), the front right turn signal will stay solid (even without the turn signal being engaged), and the rear right will flash rapidly. With the lights off, all works well, except the left side (side mounted, not the entire left side) parking light/flasher blinks as well when the right is engaged. The left side turn signals functions, no problem. Any ideas?

Is the transmission in a 2+2 the same as the 2 seater? Cant file a chart that differentiates them?
