2nd & 3rd Generation - S130/Z30/Z31

Second and Third generation: Nissan ZX (S130/Z30/Z31)

  1. When the engine warms up, the idle rises to 2100rpm. It stays there until coming to a nearly complete stop(~3mph), where it suddenly drops to 900. The car has no cruise or AC and has 62,000 miles. We brought it to our general mechanic, and he can't make heads or tails of it. Has anyone else had this problem before, or a good idea of what causes it?

  2. Hey Guys My Z has been parked for 7 years but I'm about to have it going again. I stopped driving because the heater core valve under the dash started leaking. The car is actually running great, great throttle response but will cut out and misfire at 4500 rpm, even with no load, unless I change the base timing from 10btdc to 15btdc. At 15btdc it seems to rev out fine. I need to pass smog. I'm pretty sure I can set the base timing to 10 and take it in to pass but I would like to have this working correctly. I can't seem to find a distributor, I know I can send mine out to be rebuilt but mechanically there's really nothing wrong with it. I replaced the vacuum c…

I have a 1983 280zx turbo motor and there is a sensor on the passenger side left of the oil filter and between the oil filter and the oil dip stick. now on the other side of the oil filter is the oil pressure sensor but I do not know what this one is . it reads normal open with a ohm meter and has 2 electrical connections on it and screws into the block. I am thinking it might be temperature and if so if I can use it for controlling my electric cooling fan. thanks

Motorsport has joined forces with KONI to create an exciting new product, one of the most requested upgrades for early Z-Cars we've had, to replace (and improve upon) the departed Tokico HP & Illumina Adjustable Struts. Completely new, constructed specifically for 70-83 Datsun 240Z, 260Z, 280Z, & 280ZX, these externally-rebound-adjustable, twin-tube low pressure gas-charged KONI Sport (Yellow) Struts are designed for use on both stock & modified street cars, as well as autocross & track day cars. Built to give a good balance of street ride quality and handling at the softer end of the adjustment range, the KONI Sports can easily be tuned up to nearly doubl…

I have an 1983 280ZX. For a while it has been sporadic on starting. It will crank for a while and eventually start, but sometimes it takes a while. I have noticed the smell of fuel as well. I don't see any leak at the fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator does not have fuel coming through the vacuum line either. The injectors don't seem to be leaking. This weekend while I was working on a separate issue I finally think I found the source of the leak - but I am not sure what the part is. Can someone take a look at the pictures and let me know what this is?

I am hoping someone who has done this can save me some trouble. My climate control is having the issue where the blower only turns on when in the defrost position and cold air shoots out the floor vents. No heat. I have found several posts saying that this is more than likely one of the two main vacuum lines that runs through the firewall up to the AC vacuum tank. In the engine compartment the lines look fine to the naked eye. What I don't know is how they look inside the cab. I have the dash fully removed, but I can't see how they come through the firewall. Is it literally just a long vacuum hose that runs through the firewall, or is there a plug on the other side to con…

I know this is probably out there already but does anyone have any pictures of their carb setups so I can get a better understanding of how to set them up. Fuel line, fuel return line, throttle cable, and what all these hoses and that are on it for. I have a carbed 1983 280ZX with a naturally aspirated N54 any help would be appreciated. So I fired this thing up and got a good test drive in our fine Washington rain today. All in all I'm pretty happy with it. The .080 head mod makes a pretty noticable difference. I must say however, that my original engine was pretty worn out, so any improvement must seem major to me. I'm running the same transmission and differential that came out of the '82 that the engine came from. I had removed the dash weeks ago to replace the heater hoses through the firewall, and in replacing the dash, I must've gone and knocked my temp gauge in just the right way to make it peg all the way to the top indicating total meltdown in the dash. But the meat thermometer in th…

I have a 1980 280ZX it has been having issues starting. When I try to start it in the morning (like 40 degrees outside) it will crank but wont start. In the after noon (65-70 degrees) it starts fine if I give it a little gas. But this morning I tried to diagnose the problem, and there is no spark. Does anyone have any ideas what this might be? The battery, ignition module, ignition coil and voltage regulator are all new.

Trying to figure out completely erratic readings on my oil pressure gauge. I ordered a NOS sender and it’s still crazy. So I’m wanting to narrow this down. There are two prongs on my sender and somewhere I read that one prong was for the meter and the other prong was for the oil warning light, is that true. If so the changes in pressure would result in changes in resistance to ground for reference. What I wanted to know was is the Oil pressure reading resistance across the two prongs for both the light and meter or is it reading reference of resistance to ground on each with one going for the meter and the other going for the light. Any insight here appreciated. Sent…

The notches in the cam sprocket appear to line slightly advanced to the notch in the thrust plate. Is this an issue? The crank timing is set to zero on the dial. I couldn't get a picture, but the intake and exhaust valves look closed to me. The last picture is the one that shows my concern. The mark indicates that I may be slightly advanced. The timing chain and all associated parts are new. Sent from my Coolpad 3310A using Tapatalk
