This deserves a repost, the link in the original is SNAFU. http://media.caranddriver.com/files/the-periodic-table-of-sports-cars.pdf The omission of the pony cars, Camaros / Mustangs seems glaring....

Just in case anyone hasn't already discovered it, Nissan themselves has an online parts store. Great parts breakdowns, pictures. heres an example http://www.nissanpartszone.com/components/1981-nissan-280zx_nozzle-duct-273-1388_2.html Unfortunately, it won't accept anything less than a 17 digit VIN #, preventing me from entering my ZX's 11 digit VIN for compatibility checks.... I emailed them about this "problem" Perhaps if a few of you do likewise, maybe they'll fix it.... Prices actually seem pretty good, shipping costs not so good.

... than a successful trip to the salvage yard? The owner helped me remove (without damaging!) the chrome windshield trim off the lone Z he has. Mine's in not so good shape, and since my windshield is pitted beyond visibility ... Here's the trick, you have to remove the INTERIOR trim just aft of the doors to get at the 10MM stud holding the exterior chrome trim pieces on BEHIND the ZX's doors, which THEN lets you access the screw holding the chrome strip over the door, and THEN you work your way forward to the actual windshield pieces. Tip: Pay a glass guy with experience and the right tools to do your trim removal/install. Next I went after the vacuum "motors"…

Where can I obtain a CORRECT diagram of vacuum hoses for this thing? 1980, NON-California, 49 state, Catalyst, 280ZX. Has anyone ordered the vacuum hose kit from ebay and obtained the diagram(s)? from that seller? Are they correct, detailed? Can my NISSAN dealer print out a correct vacuum hose diagram? No, there is NOT a sticker on the bottom of my hood. I wish... No, it is NOT in the FSM, only snippets... Does anyone KNOW what the various hose barbs on the BCCD are supposed to connect to? There are 3 or 4. Let me tell you the mess I've got. The thermal valve on the front of the motor is supposed to DEFEAT vacuum to the distributor advance AND EGR while the motor i…

You're more excited about getting a new (and different) refrigerator magnet than you are the part itself!

My car has a noticeable problem vapor locking on warmer days. Today's "low-emissions" "oxygenated" fuels with added alcohol are MUCH more prone to this problem, when I fill up at a particular fuel wholesaler that has "no-alcohol" gas the problem goes away completely. Has anyone solved this problem FOR GOOD on your 280Z or ZX? I've replaced the Wells, SW541 switch that controls the auxiliary fan that's supposed to cool the injectors after shutdown. Problem is my coolant never seems to get hot enough to kick it on. Yes, i've tried grounding the wire, and the fan runs just fine, times out, etc. Yes, thermostat working fine. So I went to the Wells site, hoping to find …

Hey, ZX owners, do you get a "whoosh" when you unscrew your gas cap? Mine is pretty substantial, I'd say a couple of psi. I haven't owned any other cars that kept the tank this strongly pressurized unless something was amiss. I'm wondering if I have a smashed / clogged vent line from the tank to the charcoal cannister. My car was obviously driven over something hard at some point in time. Frame rails are...ugly. Vent line might have gotten flattened. I also had trouble fueling at certain vapor-recovery pumps out in CA - but not all. Normal or not normal, in your opinion?

Can anyone give me an idea of the economics of parting out a 280ZX? Worked out good or dumbest thing you ever tried? Saw a '82 2+2 today, smashed on one side, 220K miles, at a car repair shop. It appears to have been sitting for several years. Lots of insect nests. Hood is straight, and I might go for the rear bumper. Alloy wheels look like they'd clean up. Very original, glass t-tops, original dash, etc. What else on these cars will bring any appreciable $? I can't imagine a 220K mile engine or 5 speed is of much interest to anyone. Assuming I could sell the remaining steel to a junkyard for $200, what's it worth? $400? $500? If anything on it is worth $50 o…

My ignition switch was getting "tired," it was taking excess twist to get it to the CRANK position. Friends I invited into the driver's seat couldn't start it without "instruction." So I repalced it with a new Beck/Arnley from Rock Auto. 30 day warranty. Super cheap. $12. Failed after 40 days. RockAuto was good about it, honored the warranty, but this time I bought the Airtex/Wells with a 1 year warranty. $12 vs $25. Not worth the labor to replace...AGAIN. The first time the "new" one misbehaved it would crank, but immediately die when I came back to the run position, repeatedly. AC wasn't cutting in either. Thought I was vapor locking.... Managed to limp it h…

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/1979-datsun-280-zx-first-drive-review Interesting comments, including "mashed potato" suspension. I believe my expectations about the 280ZX's handling capabilities were too high, even after replacing all sorts of front end componentry. My other sports car is an MR-2, which handles nothing short of superb. I'm not willing to suffer a noticeably rougher ride to tighten the Z up much more. I may still go with a thicker front sway bar, and haven't done the rack & pinion mounts yet.

Looks like I'm gonna be replacing the floorboards. @#$!@~~~~!!!! Has anyone already made a template? Jeez, wouldn't THAT be a timesaver! I went out to the salvage yard, and dang it, the one there, otherwise unscathed, is rusted through in the exact same spot behind the passenger seat right next to where the rear crossmember support brace bolts thru the floorboard. I'm really not clear as to how water is collecting there on these cars.

While driving the 10th anniversary z last night, a car pulled up next to me, the girl in the passengers seat gave the car a thumbs up then rolled down the window climbed half out of the window and exposed her breasts . this was a first. she then proceeded to do it again. so I have a second! Not sure if it was the car she liked or me!!!
