Hi there, so i bought a Datsun 280zx 1982 that’s been sitting since 1993-isch and I would really appeciate some help to figure out why it doesent start. It cranks but don’t want to fire up. What’s been done: 1. New spark plugs 2. New Oil 3. New gasoline 4. New fuel filter in the engine bay 5. Cleaned the fuel line 6. Cleaned the fuel filter and armature/rails in the tank By this stage It still wouldnt start so I continued: 7. Remove and cleaned the fuel rails 8. Injectors where ultrasonic washed and then cleaned inside with the help of a shot with a hose fi…

1980 280 ZX, 134,000 miles. I let the car sit for a while and the fuel went bad. Car ran terribly. Ended up replacing the injectors (with Bosch injectors), fuel regulator, fuel filter, distributer cap and rotor, spark plugs and plug wires. Now I have an intermittant skip that feels like somewhat like a misfiring plug or wire--but they are new. Someone told me that this same thing can be caused by a bad egr valve or perhaps some other part of the emissions system. Sometimes it will run several miles without an issue and then start skipping for a while. It seems to stop if I accellerate hard. The valves have been adjusted and compression is even at about 155 on all …

I bought a 1982 280zx non turbo last month and since then I've encountered a problem. The car will start stumbling and misfiring around 2500-3000 rpms. But the really weird thing is that the car doesn't do this all the time. I will start the car up, and it accelerates as smooth as silk without missing a beat. However, when the car warms up, I'll turn it off, then back on, and then the car will start misfiring at that rpm range. I've checked the air flow meter, the tps, replaced the distributor cap and rotor, replaced the o2 sensor, and a couple other things all with no luck. The o2 sensor did seem to help it, but not for that long. Please help, it's getting quite frustrat…

I am new to this forum, and desire to get the collective wisdom from the group. This is my 4th ZX. I purchased a 1980ZX Annv. Edition back in 1993, my number is 577. I started to proceed with a limited refurbishment in 1997, but work commitments, and cash flow stalled my progress. Now I have sufficient funds to finish the job. But a good friend advised that I could easily be underwater as the job progresses due to unforeseen circumstances, thus leading to the question. Current status: On jacks in the side yard. Engine at the long block level sitting in the garage and preserved. Transmission was previously worked on, and is good. Differential needs o…

I have removed the fuel rail and all associated components from my parts ZX. There is about 5 gallons of fuel in the tank. I intend to drain and remove the tank this weekend. I don't particularly want to leave the fuel inlet/outlet lines open. If I plug the fuel lines to and from the fuel rail, and leave the gas filler cap off will that prevent any fuel pressure from building up over the next few days?

I have a bad starter and ordered a replacement from AutoZone. When it came in it appeared to be a little different than the ones I saw on the internet. Specifically, it had a cone nose and the bendix moves out on a shaft like most of the starters I've ever seen. The pictures I saw on the internet do not have the cone but are simply flat. I guess the bendix simply protrudes out and engages the ring gear when the starter is activated. I have not removed mine and AutoZone is holding the one I ordered until I find out if it will work. The starter at AutoZone has a pamphlet that says the starter may look different but is appropriate for the 280zx. In looking again on t…

I have an 82'ZX NA parts car with a Nissan transmission that I am considering putting in my '80 ZX NA car. The transmission in the '80 shifts fine, but will need a clutch soon. I'm pulling the engine/trans out of the parts car anyway. My questions are: Should the '82 trans mount directly into the '80 car without modifications? Is there a different gear ratio between '80 and '82? I remember when the parts car was running its transmission shifted tighter and smoother than the one I have in the running car. I haven't checked, but unless the PO put a T5 in it, its a Nissan transmission.

Hello guys! I'm new to this forum and recently new to the datsun world I purchased a 1981 280zx datsun that has been sitting outside a barn for about 4-6 years and since it still had the engine I decided to see if I can get it running before I even consider swapping the same l28e or if I get lucky the l28et. The first things I did was: change the oil, replace the fuel filter flush tank and replace gasoline (regular) replaced battery with terminals flush and replace coolant, spark plug wires (all in correct firing order) change ngk spark plugs (gaped .42 and added oil in each cylinder for lubrication) I cranked it with no…
