I just learned something about a starter problem that I haven't seen remarked about in any forum - and I did a quick search here to check. The problem I had was that turning the key to the start position in my 1983 280ZX didn't always engage the starter. Once in every 5 or 10 times, I heard a relay click but the starter would NOT engage - even turning the key in and out of the start position multiple times. I changed the ignition switch - and no luck. I checked all contacts and no luck. I pulled the starter twice (only 3 years since rebuilt) and took it to the shop which rebuilt it for a check-out. It engaged every time they tested it. THEN I got a chance to talk w…

This is a mystery to me... Last night it rained heavily, this morning, my 280Z would not start. Once the sun comes out and "it" dries... it starts right up like a charm. This is the 2nd time in a month this happens. Just purchased my car 3 months ago, it didn't mind the rain until recently. What could be the problem? any help/suggestion it appreciated. Thank you

1981 ZX, it has the warning/check display in the center of the dash. When I first start the car I get the green "OK" but after a second or two the display shows the red warning. If I hit the check button, it displays either "tail" or "stop" as in lights. Both the tail lights and brake lights and blinkers work just fine but I still get the warning. Does anyone know what might cause this?

Ok I have cleaned the turn signal switch, Repaired burnt wires, and spent many hours under the hood and such.. I went from not having any turn signals to it blinks once and blows the fuse. I am at wits end if anyone can help with this issue please do before I go nuts. I am looking into a new steering column for it as well as hoping someone can tell me where to get a wiring harness for my car... built in 1982 but the title says a 83 280zx non turbo , N/A , Standard tranny 5 speed. The engine is sound and so is the transmission needs trim and such but this is why she is my project car.

Hi My 280zx, 1980, now have a another dangerus electrical problem. Im completly lost!. The problem starts when I start fast from a crossing, take a quick turn or at a take over that requires a sudden rise in the RPM. The fuel and door lamp goes on and then the engine starts to cut of. I can barly keep it running on a few pistons and when I stop I hear the fuel relay click and then it quits!. When I turn the key it will start immediatly. Usually it will then run ok but after a few miles the same happen now without a rise in the RPM. Other times it will run perfectly for a week or more. The ecu test lamp shows an error on the battery when I start the engine again but i…

I have a wire that is broken at the end. I comes from behind the coil, goes into a condenser as a blue wire, comes out as a black wire runs for about a foot and is broken. (looks like it has broken from some type of connector). BTW, this is on a 1981 280ZX Turbo.

I am in the process of bringing a '81 280ZX Delux back to life and one of the things I'm working on is to get the clock operating. I have removed the instrument cluster, removed the clock and disassembled it. It has an electonics driven motor and the electronics are fine (as viewed on my oscilloscope) but the motor is bad. The rotor part of the motor consists of a circular magnet driven by pulses from the electronics. The magnet was originally mounted on a plastic geared shaft but it's no longer mounted. Does anyone have any experience with the repair of this clock of know of any parts that may be available. I prefer to restore the original clock rather than install…

I recently acquired an 82 ZX. It runs great, is very clean inside and out (I paid $1800 for it--a good deal I think). In going through it I looked at the fuse box and discovered that the fuse (15A) for the fan motor was missing. I inserted one and now the fan comes on as soon as the car is started. I assume this is wrong--that it should only come on when the engine gets really hot. Any suggestions on what might be causing this? I'm thinking it must be some temperature sensor or relay. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Also, one of the windshield washer electrical connections was not connected (the connection right at the wires leading to the washer motor). When I conn…
