Hi Gang, So I picked up a 1982 L28ET engine that I plan on rebuilding and I’m basically keeping it stock for the most part using Nissan engine internals as these parts are very reliable. Once it’s rebuilt, it’s going into the 1977 280Z I just bought. I’m on the fence about using forged pistons with Moly rings but everything else like the cam, crank, valves, rockers, retainers and all other parts will remain stock. I also plan on rebuilding the original turbo with a turbo rebuild kit from Garrett which is a hell of a lot more economical than spending $650.00 dollars on a new turbo. The question I have for all of you concern's the intake manifold. As we all know the st…

Are there any websites out there that have pictures of the standard engine from different angles - even better if the complete engine, belts and all, are attached to an engine stand. Reason I'm asking, many of you are weekend mechanics as am I. I got side tracked after taking the fuel rail off along with the belts and pullies and several other items. That was several weeks ago and I finally have time to complete what I started and I'm trying to put everything back together, but I can't recall where everything goes. I've got the Haynes Owners Workshop Manual, but the pictures are either sketches or Black & White with lots of shadows. I need clear pictures of a 1982 Dat…

With the A/C off the car runs great. With it on it accelerates just fine til I get to 3200 rpm and then it stumbles terribly. If I get to around 3800 rpm and then turn on the A/C it stumbles just a little but barely noticable and will maintain pretty well at 3900 +. It started doing this last week. Ran OK with A/C on before. I could notice a difference in power with A/C on but it did not stumble. I changed the fuel filter (it was time anyway) and checked/re-gapped plugs. They looked fairly normal with maybe just a slightly lean condition. Some looked like they were burning/sparking on only one side of the plug. The way it acts to me is that is is electrical not fuel rela…

hello, I´am from germany and got an 280ZX 2+2 targa from 08/1981. it has 147Hp and is the pre facelift model also called series I (with chrome bumpers) are ther differences at the L28E rings 75-80 and 81-83 ?? thint one ring has different thickness?? nissan gave me partnumber for my car (12033-P8370). this should fit. but in auctions at ebay this partnumber is fpr 280ZX until 1980. but i have one from 1981. so its possible to have other rings? i am also not sure if the american years are same than german? nissan said 05/1980-08/1981 have partnumber 12033-P8370. can i believe nissan germany who gave me the partnumber knowing my VIN or must i open my engine to be sure?

Hi everyone, I've begun a search for a preferably operational L28ET with all its electronics to use as a swap platform. Many things will get refreshed and/or replaced along the way, of course. Here is my question: Are there differences between ECM's and/or AFM's as pertains to manual- or automatic-transmission donor cars? Was the automatic transmission controlled by the computer, or were these cars old enough that this wasn't the case? Thanks, everyone.

I just finished replacing the blown turbo on my 280ZX with a turbo off of an '86 Z31. I searched several forums for info to help with this swap and found only limited info. So I decided to post up on this and hopefully some one will benefit. The first thing I realized was the difference in the exhaust side where the waste gate is located. Z31 turbo L28 turbo You can take the wastegate/ downpipe outlet off the L28 turbo and put it on the Z31. But, the studs will have to be swapped in to replace where bolts were used on the Z31. Just make sure they're long enough to reach through and have enough room to bolt on the downpipe. This is what it looks like with the ne…

There are these Spark Plugs that are called Pulse Star Spark Plugs and the have an internal coil inside the ceramic insilator that boosts the spark "significantly"..Has any one tried these on their Z? they run $12 bucks each. Another Idea too, is it worth running a spark plug 1 number cooler than stock? Stock heat range is 6 in NGK. by going to a 7 is cooler than a 6. Is there any thing gained in this? Also I don't suppose their a way to have a high performance Cam put in and have smog test problems with it passing the test..? I see we can get headers now that are approved now. I'm going to look into having a Magnaflow Exhaust system put in (Cat back) to see if I can get …

I bought a 83 ZXT today for the engine for my 77. The car has no fuel tank, pump or sending unit. I just need something to pull fuel out of to get running. Can I just wire up a fuel pump and put the supply line and return line in to one of my lawn mower gas tanks for testing purposes? I hate to buy something for the car when it is going to scrap when I am done getting the engine running then pulling it.
