I just finished rebuilding a 5 speed that I recently bought (out of an '82 ZX). I will be putting this into my '73. I noticed that the shifter return to center from the right (5th and R) is fine but the return from the left (1st and 2nd) seems weak, if it springs back at all. Is this typical for this tranny? I did try shimming the return spring to add tension but it really didn't help. I hope this description makes sense. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Hello Everyone, I originally posted this in the other forum, but thought that I would give it a shot on this side of the house. I am searching for a couple of working F.I.C.D. Magnet Valves. My car is a '78 Z and I am pretty sure that these were used on ZX, 810 and Maximas that had the L28. The F.I.C.D. valves are the two electric solenoids that actuate the vacuum for the fast Idle when the AC is on, the other feeds vacuum to the dash. Apparently one of mine has seized up and has stopped working. I would really appreciate it if any of you could hook me up! Please PM me! BTW - You can tell if you have a good one by passing 12v across the plug - Blue being Positive an…

1981 Turbo ZX - 21 gallon fuel tank. I have the car running pretty good (no missing) but at 3500rpm it hesitates like lacking fuel. I was really bad yesterday with less than 1/4 tank. I filled her up this morning and even though it still bogs down, it is 200% better than with 1/8 tank of gas. Question is: Is the fuel tank supposed to be vented? When I take the cap off after driving it goes psshhhhh. If it is vented, is it through the cap or somewhere else?

Looks like the parts CD does not cover the 280 ZX. Anyone know what the part number is for an '83 ZX turbo head gasket? Thanks, Marty

What is the purpose of the vacuum port on the regulator? I know that the mid 80s Jaguar V12 has a vacuum port that conencts through a temperature controlled valve to teh intake manifold. When the rail gets too hot, the valve shunts to atmospheric pressure, which cause a 14.7 PSA increase in rail pressure and reduces the tendancy for vapor pockets to for in the rail. But the ZX regulator connects directly to the manifold (or so I'm told) so I can figure out what it does. Increases fueling when the manifold pressure goes up obviously, but why? TIA Ed

I'm trying to help a friend with what seems to be fueling problems on his '79 280ZX. He lives in a different city, which limits what I can do. Here's a recent note from him: "I connected a vacuum meter between the intake manifold and the fuel pressure regulator and hooked a pressure gauge to the fuel rail and took the Z out for a drive. For about the first five minutes the vacuum gauge read normal and the fuel pressure would vary from about 30 to 36 lbs and the car ran quite well. About a mile down the road the vacuum gauge started acting erratic and the fuel pressure also varied around 28-30lbs seeming to respond to the changes in vacuum. A few minutes later the vacuum …

While changing the head temp sensor in my '83 280ZXT, I noticed that when removing it (under #5 spark plug on the passenger side) I didn't get a flow of coolant. I know this sensor is supposed to be immersed in coolant, so I may have some kind of blockage keeping coolant from flowing freely into that area. Not good. My thought is to pull the sensor again, remove the radiator cap and try shooting some compressed are into the mounting hole. That hole is about 1/2" in diameter, so I should be able to get a good fit for an air nozzle with tape around the tip. I have a variable pressure valve for my air compressor so I can limit the pressure to perhaps 30 PSI, which is roug…

Hi Folks, I have a question about the L28ET engines and please feel free to correct me if I am wrong! an L28ET engine, has an engine block F54 and cylinder head P90 with L28 stamped on the engine block, NO L28ET STAMP? AM I RIGHT ! I have read Frank's book (How to modify OHC engine) and not too much info about L28ET, What confuses me, that I have not ever seen any engine with L28ET stamped on the block! Thanks

The car: 1983 280ZX Turbo, 120K miles, injectors, fuel filter all known good. The car runs well EXCEPT that more and more frequently either at idle or when I'm driving and holding a steady speed, the revs drop just like I had pulled my foot off the gas. If this happens at idle, the car stalls. If it happens while driving, the revs keep dropping unless I hit the gas. But - if I touch the gas pedal, the revs pick up and the car runs fine for another 5-10 seconds, then the power falls off again. I can drive for extended periods with this going on, and as long as I push the gas pedal down when the power falls off, the power returns and it's OK for another 5-10 seconds, wh…
