I am currently considering rebuilding a 280 motor for my 240 Z. I have a 280 turbo motor and was seeking information on intalling 240 rods into 280 block and milling dished pistons .105 inch to make flat tops. Does any member have experience in performing this modification? DISADVANTAGES? I am planning on using the P90A head (hydraulic lifters) with stock 240 carbs and manifold. I welcome any and all comments and suggestions to how and what to do to make an inexpensive, fun, and durable motor. I would like to keep this motor all stock or original parts from exisiting model years. I also need some suggestions on a camshaft for this setup. I can't find any specs on the orig…

I know it is common to put the newer setups on the 240 but I know a guy with a ZX that isn't getting spark and he just doesn't have the money to get it diagnosed or replace parts on it right now. And I have a spare coil/resistor/distributor setup. Does anyone know if it is just a matter of bolting it up and connecting a power wire that is hot when the key is on?

I just picked up a 1980 280ZX, the engine ticks a bit. I wanted to adjust the valves but can not find the gap for the intake and the exhaust. Anyone know what they might be? I am having some trouble finding a manual locally.

Hello, I am fighting the California smog police and need some help with the emission equipment attached to the intake manifold. I am look for the differences between a 1977 280Z California manifold and a 1982 280ZX California manifold. Specifically I am looking for the differences in how the BCDD and throttle body attach and are connect to the vacuum lines. I think the 1977 has the BCDD on the throttle body and the 1982 has it on the intake? If anyone has pictures of how these two manifolds, installed, with the emission equipment attached that would help a lot. I have checked both FSM's but the pictures aren't very clear and the description leaves much to be desired. Than…

My car fires up on start up but it is very cold running. If you even think about touching the gas pedal it will fall on its face. But once its warmed up it runs ok. So I am assuming there is a sensor that controls timing for easy start ups. Am I on the right track and if so is this sensor in the water jacket somewhere.

Hello everyone. I am new to the forum and was hoping that someone could give me some advice about a transmission for a 1980 280zx. I pulled the transmission to replace the throwout bearing and clutch, and when I drained gear oil, bearing pieces were in it. I feel that the tranny needs to be rebuilt, but am unsure how to proceed. Should I have someone rebuild, or should I look to purchase a rebuilt transmission? I have never done myself, and am a little nervous to rebuild on my own. Does anyone know of a good z-car transmission rebuild shop in the Washington DC, Baltimore area? What about the big tranny rebuild places you see advertised on the internet? Any advice …
