I'm slowly obtaining parts for my F54/P79 engine build. The block is all stock, no mods, and the head will be shaved .080 with the appropriate shims/spacers/valves. Stock cam. Not in any rush, I'd rather wait and save money for parts I want than rush it into the car. That being said, I'm beginning to think that my original plan to buy a lightweight flywheel/stage 1 clutch won't be that good of an idea considering the amount of traffic in my area. I use my Z daily in the summer, and while I take it out regularly for open freeway drives when everyone else is off the roads, It sees work commutes alongside Subaru's and Teslas. How light can I have a machine shop m…

A friend and I have been inventorying the loose parts of his '77 280z prior to paint and reassembly. He has an N42 engine he says is from an '80ZX. The head has the letters "BRE" stamped on the back of it. I have the original N47/N42 I pulled from my '80ZX years ago, and found no such markings. Any idea what it means? I see no obvious evidence of porting, and it was said to only be checked for straightness by a local machine shop(Don't know if its been shaved). The block does have Nissan flat top pistons. I don't know if it's been bored out at all, it's currently assembled. He says it's a .480 lift cam.

I am trying to find something that shows me how the vacuum should be connected for AC/Heat and the cruise control. Page 212 of the Hayes manual gets me part of the way there but I still can't find anything (even in th FSM) that shows me where the two vacuum lines coming from the cabin (one red, one blue) would go. I looked through the FSM quite a bit and I am beyond confused. This is for a 1983 280zx non-turbo. Any help is appreciated.

My subscription to this site has been some of the best money I have spent. Thanks to everyone for always taking a look at my issues and helping me out (without making me feel like an idiot!). I have noticed that I keep adding coolant to my reservoir, but within a couple of weeks it is gone. I did some googling last night and this seems to be one of the symptoms of a blown head gasket. I looked around a little bit to see if I could see a leak anywhere. All I am seeing are the leaks below. In addition may oil pan gasket and rear differential cover gasket are both leaking, but don't think it is related. Can someone take a look at these pictures and see if they can…

About a year ago, I put a newly refreshed and .080 shaved P79 head on a used stock F54 block. I have since rebuilt the block with new rings/bearings, etc. I also installed a .480 lift cam and new rockers/springs valve seals, and DSI swirl polished valves. I'm running it all with FAST EFI from Zcardepot. It all works great. I've been breaking it in by running it at short full throttle bursts and engine braking down hills. Never over 4k RPM and constantly fluctuating RPM/cruise speed. I have put roughly 175 miles on it so far and have no reason to believe it is not breaking in properly. Plugs look good, no smoke, no oil consumption so far, and it's mak…

Been going through my engine for the last couple of months. I'm re installing it in the car and can't for the life of me remember if anything came out of this hole. If so, would someone kindly re educate me. It's roughly in the 11 o'clock position when facing the oil filter housing area. Pictures on google show it not used but I could only find clear pictures of peoples engines on stands(not in car). It's a 1982 F54.

I have a stock turbo exhaust manifold from a 82 or 83 that I’m am currently cleaning up. I noticed when I first started cleaning it that it seems to have a few patches black on it. I’m not totally positive it was paint, but I would like to paint it to “preserve” it and keep it from rusting. Were the stock 82-83 turbo manifolds painted black from factory? If not, should I paint it cast iron color? Will be using VHT Flameproof Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Since it is the winter in Missouri I decided to work on a couple of things with my 1983 280zx while the car is in the garage. I replaced all the fuel injectors and the fuel injector wiring. I also removed the valve cover and cleaned it up, and replaced the gasket. Finally, I ordered one of those silicone hose kit and replaced a bunch of the vacuum tubes that were old and crumbling. I put a new fuel filter in while I was messing with the fuel system. I went to test drive it yesterday and it started up just fine and runs well. I backed it out in to the driveway and the brake pedal dropped down to the floor. I think the brakes work, but just barely. I checked the brake…

Hi guys, This time i'm going to refresh The engine of my 280zx as i can predict that the seals and all will fail one time and i want to prevent that (after 42 years !!) Spotted this problem with the AC clutch in my 1983 280ZX Turbo while changing the sway bar bushings. Looks like a rivet let go. I removed the AC belt so the compressor won't be spinning at all, but looks like I'll need a clutch. I'll be looking for one!
