HI, Please excuse my question if it has already been addressed. I have searched the forum but have not found any information. I am in the process of cleaning up some rust under the Cowl of my '77. The foam attached to the underside of the cowl are in reasonable shape but there is rust under them. If I remove the pads to get at the rust I will need to replace them. Where can I buy replacements? Can I use something similar that is readily available? Thanks!

In 1970, we didn't have "choice of color" when our name came up on the waiting list. We were fortunate to get a #918 orange car, which was fine, but the color we really coveted was #919 Sunshine Yellow. We have now purchased another early 1970 Z in process of restoration which, 41 years later, will finally enable us to fulfill our desire. The question is: will it be possible to re-create the actual, original Sunshine Yellow after all this time? I haven't seen a Z that color in YEARS. Are there resources that can track down the original "recipe" or formula for a particular obsolete color? That failing, is there another more recent yellow which is practically identi…

Hi all Last month I bought a pair of new chrome door moldings from "Reddat" on eBay. Yesterday afternoon I had a bit of free time so I thought I'd install them on my June 1973 240z... Well I came across an odd issue The moldings he sent me are dead straight when viewed from the side of the car The moldings that are on my car and which I believe to be original have a slight curve to the back half of them. They slightly curve up to meet the quarter glass. I pulled mine off and noted that the top of my door skin has the same slight curve to it. Am I seeing things? The seller Reddat is telling me that the only difference in the door chrome moldings for the different year 240z…

Nearly everything is out of the engine bay, only small things left and the time to paint is coming closer, and closer. I was originally just thinking of taking her to a local body/paint shop and get the engine done up but being me, I can't stop thinking, if I'm going to invest a few hundred dollars in this, why not do it myself? That way I get experience and tools for the future. Anyhow I'd like to get some tips from the people I trust the most with my Z, you guys! First of all, what ALL should I remove before painting? (Maybe the better question is what shouldn't I remove?) I've got almost everything out besides the brake stuff and the wiring harness & a few other li…

I have been reading posts and the fsm about the details of where and when to apply sealant and/or adhesive. The instructions and recommendations differ greatly. In fact some even say not to use sealant. Any guidance is most welcome. Here is what I presently plan to do: note: newly painted body and new seals Windshield: 1. Install weather stripping around glass. 2. lift front lip of weather stripping off glass and place a thin bead of sealant around perimeter. 3. Install cord in weather stripping 4. Install metal trim 5. Install assembly into window frame (pulling cord) 6. lift outer edge or weather stripping and apply a bead of sealant. Still up in the air: 1. Should I…

Okay, so I thought I lost my precision hatch seal from MSA and i ordered another one from VB,---because MSA was on back order. I get the VB window seal today and notice a distinct difference in the seal when it comes to the SS trim channel. The pic says it all. The VB channel for the molding in MUCH wider then the MSA seal. It looks too wide and I would be skeptical of how well it would hold the molding in place. I used a precision on the front windshield and the molding fit very snug under the channel lip. I will probably send back or sell the hatch window seal from VB, but I wanted to present this to the forum for some feedback. I will say that the rubber on the VB seal…

Ok, I am getting confused as to what is the "best" route to go in finishing the suspension components (control arms linkages etc.). I know a lot have gone with powder coating but I am seeing that some are use POR-15 to paint suspension components and I have seen some have painted the interior of the car with POR-15. As I have always done things, I want the best I can get. Thanks ahead of your comments.

I'm getting close to having the body and paint work done on my car, which is a late '73 240. The original color was 306 silver, though the existing color is quite a bit darker. I'd like to get back closer to the original, but with a little more metal flake in it for the depth. Any one have recommendations of colors you have used? Thanks.

Just want to thank the folks on this site for suggesting Charlie @ Zedd Findings. I ordered floor pans from him, received them less than a week later. The pans have the same plug holes, bends, stamps as the original. In addition, he was great to deal with, very helpful. Hap

Moving the gas grill out of the garage, the wheel caught on something, it swung around and put a ding in my driver's door on the Z. I saw it happening, but couldn't stop it in-time... The ding is maybe about 1/10" deep, 1" diameter, about 1-1/2" above the supersonic line on the door. I'm really bummed and can't believe I was so careless. Of course, I'll get it fixed... Plan to call a dent-removal guy tomorrow, but I expect it will require minor bodywork and paint to fix it "right". Just before my trip to SOCAL too!
