My car is painted a viper red and I need to pick a color for my front air dam, ZG flares, and hatch louvers. The logical chose would be to paint them gloss or flat black. But this combination has been done to death. I am looking for opinions on alternate colors to paint my front air dam, ZG flares, and hatch louvers that would look good on a red car.

My father was not the best at detailing his cars, just water an a brush. So the bumper and drivers side tail light chrome trim is heavily discolored from exhanst fumes over the years. I was able to clean up the bumper with chrome polish but did not attempt anything on the chrome fearing to damage it further. Any suggestion it as to what i can do the clean it up if possible ?

My 240 is nearly painted, and the body shop is begining to work on the car's suspension components. What do most of you prefer-- powdercoating or painting for the supension pieces? Are there pros/cons to each approach? I had originally opted for paint--but after looking at some of the shop's undercoating work, I may go that route instead. On a similar note: Has anyone tried powdercoating the grille and tail light panel? If so, how close is it to the original gray color? Thanks!

I'm looking for a site or file which would have actual color chips or accurate (not perfectly accurate obviously) photo's of the original Datsun Z color's. Have tried searching the web for early OEM brochures, have tried several paint sellers sites, all to no avail. Googling isn't getting me anywhere. I'm not looking for a perfect color match to paint from, just a very good representation of the colors to get a good feel for their original hue. Specifically most interested in 240 colors, and Series One colors would be ideal initially, but all up through '78 would be of value. I have Carl's paint codes & color names, am looking to match up the "chips" with those codes.…

This topic might appear to have been covered many times before, in many different ways, but in all my reading I feel that there still wasnt one that answered my dilemma So, the thing is, i stripped my interior to bare metal, in preparation for paint and I removed the factory tar sound deadening. And it is not so much that i dont know what to do next, but what i would like is advice and/or opinions on how to achieve the best results as far as protection and appearance goes. I am somewhat lucky enough that my floor pan area is not badly rusted. There are minor areas of rust, but the majority of the floor pan is in tact and needs no major work. So my question is, now that…

I am about to purchase a '77 or '78 Z. I've seen a few in person that had cracks along the roof rail just as the rail leave the roof along the hatchback. What causes this and should I be wary? Also, where is the C-Clip located? I know about the floor pan and frame rail rust issue. Are there other structural issues I need to keep in mind before my purchase?

I have a 1970 240z with the rear hatch vents. I personally think these vents were the dumbest things ever and I want to get it sealed up ASAP (water seepage and major fumes). Without completely fiberglass the vents shut, has anyone stuck something from the inside to seal it up? I was thinking of sticking a layer of neoprene to fill up the gap behind the vent and then secure it with waterproof tape. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure exactly what these are called... we always referred to them as "battery covers." I'm talking about the small, removable covers that allow access to the battery and master cylinder (IIRC). About 10x6 inches, they install on each side of the hood into the top of the fender, very near the base of the windshield. I took mine in for engine work and some brainless dingbat lost them. They swear they'll find them for me, but by that time cars will be replaced by hovercraft. The local junkyards aren't providing much... anyone know where I can find a cheap set? Thanks!

My son is home from AIT for Christmas and we got his Z painted. We spent about 6 days at a friends shop and spent about $250. It is just black enamel. We did some custom metalwork. I added 3 rows to the grill and plates for led blinkers. We welded plates over the old blinker holes and bumper recess. Did the same for the rear bumper recess. Also welded in four patch panels, bottom of both front fenders and front of rear wheel wells. Shortened the rear bumper. And filled the vents on the rear cowl. Whew !! We also replaced the door and hatch weatherstrip so we had to loosen the latches a little. It turned out pretty well for a couple newbe bodymen. I have done a li…

After sanding to bare metal, what type of primer should be used, self-etching, epoxy, others? I plan to go ahead and coat the bare metal so it won't flash rust. At a later time, I would then do a little filler and seam sealing work and then paint. Can body filler be added on top of self-etching primer or would I have to sand it off and prime first with another type of primer?

Any recommendations on undercoating - either spray cans of rubberized undercoating or more of a system like Lizardskin or QuietCar?

Season's Greetings to everyone! I know this issue has already been discussed ad naseum in other threads. However, I don't think I've ever seen this particular angle, so I'm posting it in the hopes that it might help those of us who are still experiencing fumes in their cabin. Prior to the restoration of my burgundy '78 coupe, I was experiencing bad exhaust fumes in the cabin. I replaced all the seals, weatherstripping, gaskets, grommets, etc. I could find (well, almost all). Redid some body seams as well. That almost 100% fixed the problem. However, I still noticed an occasional slight whiff of fumes with the window down when I would pull to a stop. Nothing major but st…
