Hello all Over the past couple of months I've been investigating exactly how well the rear section of my car is sealed. This past week I discovered, by accident mind you, that the tail light gaskets were no longer really doing much of a sealing job. This weekend I finally had time to actually take the lights out and see how bad the situation was. Well, the gaskets, which I'm assuming back in the 70's were rubber, were hard as a rock. They didn't come off as much as fall off. Taking the light out of the rear of the car most of the gasket material fell to the ground. I replaced the gaskets with new gaskets I had picked up from MSA the week before. The whole process went …

Hello, I'm looking for advice on an SEM product: Clear Chip Guard - Aerosol 39804 . I'm getting my 240z ready for summer driving and this year my goal is to try something that prevents all the stone chips along the running boards and rear fender from dinging up the paint. I must spend at least an 1hr per month touching up stone chips. With my tires on 7.5" wide rims and driving on clean highway and smooth roads, I still pick up quite a few small stone dings in the paint - in some cases down thru the primer to the metal. Questions: 1) Has anyone tried using the SEM Clear Chip Guard Aerosol - 39804? SEM Tech. Data Sheet: http://semproducts.com/images/tech_files/CG%20…

I have been reading the forum for some time and find it very useful source of information for helping my son with his 78 2+2. However I have not been able to find anything on the 2+2 quarter windows so I thought I would ask. I have checked most of the vendors out there, BD, Vintage, Courtesy, and a host of Ebay sellers and I cannot find the seal that goes on the leading edge (by the door) for the 2+2. It appears to run the height of the frame, with cutouts for the metal tabs that appear to be the hinges to open the window, and extend across the top approximately 2 inches where the weatherstrip similar to the door sash weatherstripping begins. Any help would be much apprec…

Hi all, Is there a "floor" (see pic) between the two frame rails that are on top of each other between the TC rod and firewall? I am trying to spray anti corrosion material into the frame rail by inserting a wand into a hole in the front frame rail located by the radiator support and I want to be sure I am hitting all cavities and I have seen different opinions. Picture used without permission from 240dkw (thank you). Mike

Hi, I just bought a 1976 280Z 2 seater and my biggest concern is THIS: It's the front left hand side pillar... it's the worst thing about the whole car and the only thing I cannot seem to find a solution to. It seemed fine when I bought the car but it was LITERALLY holding up by the PAINT! After I scratched up the paint bubbles, it fell appart so my question is simple: is it FUBAR (f***ed up beyond any repair) or is there anything I can get done to save another Z? Thanks!

Well, after a long break i'm back at it. I have some moderate rust issues, but nothing i think i can't fix. Unfortunately i don't have the budget to do the whole car atm but I have seen pictures around of the rear quarter panels taken off by cutting out the spot welds. What i would like to do is take off the outer panels, including door sills, dog legs, rear quarters and tail of the car below the tail lights. I want to do this so i know im not just painting over rust and have a solid base to build from. This brings up a couple questions. 1, do these provide any structural support, will i have to do them one at a time, as is suggested with floor pans? 2, If anybody know…

I have a spare hatch for my car that I want to get sand blasted and painted but I would like to remove the glass to this this and also replace the weather stripping around the glass. Has anyone here successfully removed the glass and weathersripping/chrome molding? Also, is it urathaned in place? or does it just rely on the rubber seal around the window? any tips would be appraciated! Alex

Hi again, everyone, I heard from the folks at MSA (while ordering a list of goodies) that the OEM body emblems for our z's are cast metal. That being said, a fellow forum member is parting out his '72 240z, and the emblems on the car are definitely all plastic but appear quite original (aged chrome plating, faded paint, etc). Can anyone shed some light on what emblems may have been metal or plastic? Thanks
