I picked what I thought was a nice Z. Closer inspection showed front end damage. We're replacing the whole front clip from the struts forward and the driver side rocker. Car goes to the fabricator today. There are misc metal issues that will be addressed including some fixing up of the floor pan, some minor work on the frame rails, and spot welding of some clips and such that fell off. I'm considering drilling out the spot welds that hold the battery tray in and then cleaning up that area and then re-welding it up ... well see how it goes. If you look at the pictures you can see it has a great paint job ... new weatherstrip, Konig rewinds, new tires, and good chro…

I tried doing a search on this but no luck - maybe I havent used the right lingo. What is the best way to remove the layer of asphalt type paper that is over top of the floor pans? I have removed some of it with a chisel and found rust some below. My idea is to remove it all then coat everything with POR 15 before I install new carpets. Anyone help? regards Dave

As many of you know, I had an "off" on 9/6/08 and did some front end damage to my '72. The front left frame rail is bent inwards (you can see how much in the two pix attached - look below the two air horns on the carbs - although it's tough to get a true overhead shot of the car as it sits right now) and I am discussing the repair process with both the body shop owner and the insurance adjuster. Initially, we thought that the car could be placed on a frame rack and pulled back into shape. My body man knows at least two local folks who have such equipment (and whom he respects) and he had one come out to look at the car. This guy ended up saying the he didn't know wher…

This is a follow-up to my other post. I'm sure others have seen worse. We'll be fixing these areas of damage on the front frame. It seems as if one side was sort of repaired and on the other side it seems they burned holes where there was rust. Odd.

Does anyone know if there is a a company out there that makes a smooth piece for the rear of a 240. i am trying to eliminate my rear bumper and instead of doing all the patchwork needed i thought it would be nice if someone made a one piece weld on unit. Thanks in advance. Slo

I've heard people say that I should go to Home Depot and buy their weathership material for some of the foam-like strips under my front fender. I did buy the MSA inner to outer fender weatherstrip pieces. What about those square pieces on the top of the inner fender. Any recommendations? What's there now (see picture) has crumbled to dust.

i keep my 280 out in the country in my dad's garage, and most everything is cheaper out here, but this seems a little cheaper than normal. i went to a body shop called TCB Riveria in Quinlan, TX. the guy gave my car a cursory look and told me $2500 for both the body work and the paint, or $2000 if i do the disassembly myself. the engine bay has already been done. he says that he doesn't use bondo, he uses some fiber glass product. he said the paint job would involve painting all the door jambs and both sides of the hood, hatch and doors. he showed me a few albums of cars he's done, trophies he's won. he seemed pretty dependable. i'll be sure to look at his work up close b…

I've been doing the body work on my 240Z V8 project car. I started on the hood last weekend and after stripping off 9 layers of paint & primer, was pleased to discover the hood was free of any major damage. However, there were two dents on the top of the hood at the nose that were filled with copious amounts of body filler. There was also a crack on the drivers side front of the hood that required a quick repair with the MIG welder. I dimpled the crack with a body hammer then welded & filled it with the MIG. A little work with the grinder dressed the weld down and a small amount of filler will finish it up. Because there is a brace on the back side of the no…

Evening all , as the title says has anyone come up with a system \ fix for the broken pins on the emblems . I have a feeling that I might be out of luck on this one but there are some very bright people around this site and they might have come up with a fix that doesn't include taking my wallet out again . My originals had been glued on from the PO and are in great shape otherwise , but I would rather not go that route if I can help it . Thank you for any advice and help . Chris

So, i got FSM for 72Z. There is nice instructions how to install the rubber and weatherstrip. BUT, what im asking here, is hints of Z-demigods about the whole procedure. What is the wisest way of doing it. I've never installed windows/strips/rubbers so that's why im asking. :stupid: Also i've heard that installing mouldings can be tricky, is this just a rumor, i dont know. Thanks and sorry
