The body shop guy finally sent me some pictures of the car with some paint on it!!!!! Its only a beginning but the car has been in the shop since last fall. I am so excited and can hardly wait to get the car completely painted. Its only the first step as I will then have to bring the rolling shell home and start re-assembly. Two of the pictures are the primered body and the third is the engine bay with the blue paint. Its a bit lighter than I had planned but I still love it. Carl

On Saturday I thought I'd lubricate the wiper mechanism so I removed the wipers, removed the screws on the cowl/shroud or what ever you call it. I turned it over and nearly wet myself with shock when I saw this horrible reddish/brown stuff. Off to my shed I go. With a folded sheet spread out on my workbench (hope Barb doesn't notice an extra sheet in the wash) to protect the paintwork, wire brush, sandpaper and the three stage Killrust application fixed the problem and I was able to refit the shroud/cowl on Sunday afternoon. Just thought I'd mention this to remind you blokes not to be complacent about the cancer beast. This coming weekend I'm going to give the old g…

Hi Guys, I'm cutting off my nose this afternoon... not to spite my face, but to get rid of a rusty crumpled mess. I'm going to make new nose sections from scratch so I'll post some pics of the work once I've made some progress. I'm thinking I'll make a reversible steel template so I can flip it to make the other side. And I'll make a die to press the reinforcing rail that goes on the back. If it goes well and it's not too much work I might make so more if there's a need for them. I bought this car in pieces so there are a couple of holes in the nose I'm not sure what they are for. I've circled the mystery holes in the third attached photo. Two are up against the rad sup…

Hello all! I rarely post in the body work section as so far I have not had anything more serious than a dab of underbody rust that POR-15 took care of. So I have been thinking of removing my front air dam and going back to the stock front end with a Spook air dam (BRE style). I know there are many places to get one of these, but what I do not have is all the body work underneath my bumper like the side pieces and front center valence connecting them. They are just not there, as my air dam was installed when purchased new according to the paperwork and bill of sale. Here is my current config. Where can I find those front three pieces of bodywork if I decide to go …

Installed the windshield yesterday. Used the "cord" method with weed-wacker line and a combination of "KY Jelly" and armor all for lubrication. Worked great! We had the windshield installed in less than 20 minutes total time. Would have been 10 minutes except the corner trim pieces popped out.

I have a question. The door has a spring and some kinda ridged slots on the lower bracket. Mine broke and is it easy to replace and what do I have to do to install a new stem? I saw one at the junkyard but dont know how ling that is going to last.

On my previous Z I had a urethane air-dam painted to match the car. I left the lower, protruding lip unpainted with the natural black plastic exposed. If I "accidentally" touched a parking block, there was no paint to chip. It continued to look good for many years despite the occasional parking mis-calculation. Therefore, I'm thinking of adding rubber "U" trim on my front spook to protect the lower lip. Attached are a few pics. Any opinions or suggestions of a better approach?

Does anyone have pix of the original battery tray? Were they alway the plastic ones with a drain tube like what is available today (like the one Z Car Source sells here: http://www.zcarsource.com/content/p/9/pid/53912/catid/7674)? I have a series I car which has a metal tray (it "had" some kind of coating, like rubbery plastic or something), it has I believe it's 6 places in the bottom where there are + shaped openings/holes. Was this OE or some aftermarket piece? I'm trying to decide if it's worth restoring or scrapping, it's VERY rusty and will require a TON of media blasting to clean up then lots of effort filling in all the rust through. When all that's done I cou…

Hi all, I'd like some input on what color to paint the wiper motor protection cover. I've pulled my "grill" panel off to expose the wiper motor as I took on cleaning up this part of the car and assuring the passenger side drain is clear of debris. Currently my wiper motor cover is Silver and the prior owner painted the car Green. Question 1) What I don't know is if this was just overspray from a Silver paint job many years ago - or did Datsun paint these wiper motor covers to match the original body color which was Silver? Question 2) Should I just paint the wiper cover Green - the same color that matches the rest of my car now? OR should I paint it Black (Flat/L…
