Hi Guys, Just dropped the rear bumper on my 280z. There are now 3 holes on either side of the trunk by the spare tire where the crash bumper bracket came through from the bottom. What did you guys do to close the holes to keep exhaust from coming back in? Will add a photo tomorrow in case my description is confusing, but tonight I need to try to convince my daughter to go back to bed. 😛

Without meaning to shill for this vendor, they have really taken the Z restoration process a completely new level when compared with the bad old days of Tabco-or-make-your-own. I just checked their website and was pleasantly surprised to see that they've pretty much doubled their range of Z repair panels from the time when I last checked in 2020 (the 240Z catalog now includes 44 items). The resurrection project is moving towards the rear hatch area. Looks like I may be purchasing the new replacement repair panel if I can not fabricate a decent looking piece. A quick project on that portion of the car is the guide brackets with the nylon slides and small compression springs. One spring was completely gone, the other mostly intact. Is there a way to safely remove those nylon guides so I can media blast, clean and paint those brackets and later reinsert the nylon guides. I really do not want to bend the bracket to remove them. Not sure how they were assembled at the factory since the bracket is spot welded. Any tips will be appreciated. Thanks, John-L…

I've been thinking about how best to address one of the most common rust out areas on our cars, the bottom corner of the front fender. There is a reinforcement panel which is crimped into the back edge of the fender, and where it twists at the bottom of the fender, it creates a trap for dirt and debris, which over time, collects in the bottom rear corner. The debris which gets trapped here allows no air circulation so it holds moisture for extended periods of time, over and over again. Eventually, bare metal gets exposed and rust starts. I've read conflicting information on a few boards about the differences between the modern formula for safari gold and how well it matches. Can anyone share specific experiences? It's a full reliant so color match isn't the issue, I only want to be in body shop jail once. Thabks

I can't say whether this bright idea of mine has been offered by others before, but here goes: The metal badge on the front of the hood has a raised centre section and DATSUN letters that are chrome finished. The recessed areas are painted black. Over half a century the black paint had faded to pretty much nothing. I briefly tried to paint the recessed areas, but getting into tiny areas like the interior surface of the "A" was beyond my artistic skill level. What I came up with was to take a very thin touch of vaseline on my finger, and run it over the raised chrome areas, being careful not to get any on the black areas. Anyone like to discuss disassembly technique where the frame rails and lower radiator supports are welded together? It looks like a necessity to dissemble the lower radiator support at the very least to get new frame rail up in there. Lucky for me I need to replace the inboard (rear) lower radiator support piece that has the lightning holes in it anyways. Thanks gang.

Hi Guys! Getting ready to start fitting my Z with 240z bumpers, but having some issues with supply for Chrome reproduction 240z bumpers. Not sure if the delay is pandemic related, or if the producers have gone out of business but it is pretty impossible to find aftermarket bumpers ATM. While the Z community is well served by a couple of specialty manufacturers of replacement body panels, there remain certain large panels that can usually be sourced only by taking a replacement panel from a donor vehicle. Examples would be the hood, roof, hatch, outer and inner door panels, firewall, inner front fenders, rad bulkhead, and the tail panel. Nissan has recently previewed a new technology that permits large, complicated-shape panels to be formed without a die. While it's probably intended to serve the collision repair industry, it's conceivable that they might be talked into doing short runs of panels for older classics like the Z and Skyline. Here's…
