Well, I have been spending alot of time on the Z over the last few days. I have found that most of the time when you start pulling a Z down you find ALOT more work or damage then you may have thought you had at first. I am VERY VERY happy too report that is not the case here!!! Nothing more then surface rust. No holes or rot going from the inside out. She is just as solid as I had thought it was. I am very pleased that I did take it down this far. Like I said it has some surface rust and I know it would have grown into some real damage had I not caught it at this point. So, now I am getting the sandblaster out tomorrow and going over the everything that I can from the f…

I am trying to identify early front bumper brackets, the ones I took off my car are obviously homemade or from some other vehical. Since I am at my office today I can't check my club cd, I have searched here w/o result. Do they look like this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-Front-Bumper-Brackets-260Z-280Z-NICE_W0QQitemZ190294108613QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item190294108613&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318#ebayphotohosting Or are they different? I installed some driving lights on the 280 grill to fill in the place where the stock turn signals were. Thanks for the idea Arne!

I was putting in some late hours at the shop tonight helping a friend with his motorcycle. A few more of the guys had shown up and we started BSing about paint. Well one of my friends was talking about a custom color that he had mixed up awhile back. It's a metal flake pearl thats a color shifting paint. the tone of it is dark blue in the can but shifts into greens aswell as purple once it's painted. He started talking about it and said " well hold on I have it over here in the paint booth." So he comes back and has a full gallon of the paint and matching clear. He also had a bottle of HEAVY electric blue pearl for mixing in the clear. Now, after some dealing I own all o…

OK, floorboard replacements are fabbed and bent, new rails from Bad Dog on the way (watching the tracking is addictive!) welder and air nibbler are in house and ready to go. I have read a lot of searches on this common rite of passage and I think I am ready to go. Car is on ramps, blocked, undercoating removed (btw just heat with propane torch till it starts to change color, not much more, hurts when it catches fire and drips on you while you try to beat out the flames!) battery disconnected and out, all flamable parts of interior removed or covered with welding paper. One side at a time. Cut out the old, clean up the edges, flange the replacement panel, hammer and sha…

There's background needed here and that makes this lengthy. Sorry. As some of you will recall, I started the rebuidling of my original-owner '72 (HLS30-46372) last summer. We have the front end, floor pans and rockers all taken care of. However, I have been stymied for some time trying to get the rear fenders addressed. The reason is that one of the curved parts that makes the arch from the inner, vertical wall section of the "tub" to the outer skin (where it meets up with the external body work and gets pinched together) has been eluding my acquisition. This part is colloquially called the outer rear wheelhouse and the illustration shows it as part number 75. I've…

I have a '73 240Z to which I wish to fit some ZG type flares. There are several companies which offer these flares, I want some feedback on which product was used and what are your comments on the product. I prefer the bolt on type but your comments are welcome. Regards from Downunder. :classic:
