My car expertise is more mechanical than body/paint, so I have a question for you paint experts. I have a 240z with low miles and it still has the original paint, the lovely lime-green color, shiny and sweet. The paint is perfect except for a spot on the fender and hood about the size of a football, and which also includes the flip up tray, where the paint has wrinkled and blistered due to a previous owner's carb fire. I haven't taken it in to a body shop yet (the car is in storage for the winter) to talk to them, but I'm wondering if its even worth it to try to match and patch, or if I need to save up for a total fresh paint job? I have horrible memories of my first 240,…

Well after alittle body work. As in sanding out the filler from the trim holes and redoing them. I rolled it into our paint booth lastnight and gave her a few coats of flat black. Not sure what color I will go with in the end. But for now this will do. Talk about a change.

My poor Z... 1 2

After spending a grand on fresh carbs and getting a lot of little mechanical problems straightened out, I was driving my Z back home. Literally half a mile from my shop, I got rear ended at a red light. Overall I suppose it could have been a lot worse, but it still hurts. Badly. I was wondering if you guys could point me to a body shop in southern california that does some great work on these old Z's. Also was wondering if that chrome hoop on my rear bumper can be transferred onto a new rear bumper...or is there a way to somehow straighten out my bumper? Also you guys can see how in one of the pictures the bumper dug into the paint and chipped away at the fiberglass...wa…

SO a friend of mine who used to be into Z's gave me some leftover parts he had. One of them is a brand new OEM right fender. The only issue is there is a small dent on the top which can be fixed with a hammer and dolly by a trained body man. As much as I would love to use this fender I won't because I am going to be adding ZG flares and I don't want to cut a brand new fender up. I am going to try to sell it to fund my restoration. How much should I get for it? It is definetly a oem fender it still has the dealer tag on the inside form where it was purchased. Any info would be gratefull.

Hi all, As I get closer to putting my car back together, I'm balking at putting certain old parts back on it. The bumper fillers on the front bumper, for example. They are intact, but faded and scuffed. Some people call these bumper packing. They go between the bumper and body, behind the front bumper, on the ends of the bumper. Its a 1973, which has unique bumper fillers on the front. MSA and BD sell the right one, but not the left one. The left one is the worst one, and its the side I'm going to see most often. Does anyone have any ideas of what to do? Will it look ok without these parts (I don't think it will)? Can you somehow refresh the parts? They have …

Need your opinion. If you wanted a Racing Green colored 240Z, would you wait until you found an original Racing Green colored car or would you purchase any good conditioned car and paint it the color you wanted. Thanks! Larry

Heres the story! I have spent some money on my 1977 280z to get it running and I'd hate to give it up for lost. I don't have any pictures of it, which is just due to bad timing. I am in the military and got deployed rather soon after I got my car. Now, I have looked over the car and the body seems to be in decent condition. Some minor rust on the outside (it was sanded down in prep to paint it but was never painted so a few spots went exposed and naturally rusted over). The biggest rust though is in the engine bay. Where the battery would sit over, it looks like battery acid was trying to eat the metal. Also, I noticed that along the hatch on either side of the car roug…

Was the original 73 hood hinges and rods gold/silver plated or simply painted the color of the body ? Can this post be trusted : http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29951&highlight=Hood+Hinges

Did 240Z's have any type of inner fender for the front ? The micro fiche doesn't help. It seems a bit strange that rocks could hit the under side of the top of my front fenders. Jay Not just a Z - zdisease

The man I bought my 240z from had the car painted and I noticed that the hatch shelf was filled. I'm thinking that some metal must have been welded into the corners, because the surface is very smooth and feels hard when I knock on it. Is this type of modification usually done to early z cars when they're painted? I know this a common spot where rust can develop on z's, but I hope there wasn't a huge amount of rust in the corners of the hatch jam before it was filled. It seems pretty solid to me.

I just bought my first car (car is ten years older than I am) and it will need new seat soon. I was thinking that I could just head over to the junkyard. So what will fit? Thanks...
