Just purchased an extremely clean 75 280Z. Great shape, will post some pics later. The rear bumper needs re-chroming due to muffler fumes fading the chrome above the tailpipe. Front is perfect. The issue is all the rubber parts have shrunken and/or faded over time as they will do. These are very expensive and hard to find pieces for the 75 cars. Including rechroming the rear, I could easily have $1,000 into the front and rear bumpers. Going with 240 bumpers is a hassle too, as either they are very expensive new or will require similar work to the chrome and rubber parts if used. And, I really dont like the look of the after 72 bumpers anyways. IMO, it takes away from the …

Ok so as some of you know from my "Guess what I found.." post I have the same rust as everyone else. There are two floors in the car, the original or about 60% of it and a newer fabbed one from an earlier restoration that is inside the original and rather solid, but I think I am going to have to cut out the floor pan and replace the passenger side. Drivers is all there and all solid, hammer and screwdriver tested. Other than Big Dog and Charlie I was not able to find any other suppliers of the floor pans and the floor support. Are there only 2 or am I just a poor search word choser in google and the search here? Additionally I have rust at the torsion bar mount. What…

My car being "not accessible" (at the shop which is a good 1 hour drive in the Canadian snow...) for a few months can anyone help and give me the dimension (Length, Width, Height) and weight approximation of a Z 70-72 front bumper ?

After a blown head gasket on the way home when I bought the car, a battle for headlights and dashlights, and all out brawl to get heat, I decided it was time to look a little closer at the car and really dig in. Ignorance is bliss!!! Got the beastie up in the air and noticed some surface rust on the front suspension, and the springs were flaking, happy to see the dry oil pan bottom and trans. Not too happy about the the rubber bushings, and there is only a little life left in the rack and pinion boots. Rolled back a little more, checked the drivers side rails and floor and was really happy. Saw something hanging down on the passenger side and couldnt figure out what i…

Anybody heard of this place? https://rsp-secure.com/rarespares/default.asp?car_type=34A&model=DATSUN%20240Z%20260Z Rear hatch panel for about $100 Australian. Exchange rate makes that about $65 USD plus shipping which probably isn't too cheap. Steve

I was driving around on errands the other day and it occured to me that the roads had gotten considerably rougher after the couple weeks of snow we had. When I got home I just happened to take a look back at my hood, an the emblem was barely hanging on! It had apparently vibrated off. It looks like the two pins were lined up and it simply got glued in place before. I was wondering what sort of glue should I use? Is this how it should be attached? The pins are clearly not a press fit.

My '72 240 has been sitting in my garage for just over a year, and before I bought it it sat 23 years in a garage. It has sat in a garage untouched and in need of (what else but) rust repair. I have the classic floor board, dog leg, rear wheel well, and some engine compartment spots, but the frame rails overall look good. I have no welding equipment (have welded before... fences) I'm wanting to do the floorpans and smaller-complete body work myself (college kid... tight on money). As for my garage, it is a one car garage and only have a 110 Amp power source, so I was looking at a 110 Amp, 220 Volt Flux and MIG Welder from harbor freight. I should have many uses for the we…

I am planning to have the engine rebuilt in my burgundy '78 280z. She sat for at least ten years and although she runs quite well, she's burning a lot of oil and has some significant exhaust leaks. The shop told me this will take about 7-10 days. While the engine is out, I plan to clean up and refresh the engine bay. There is a little bit of rust that I can see around the battery tray and although the floor pans and rails are amazingly rust free, I can also see what looks like some surface rust around the drivers side rail underneath and behind the engine. So I want to have these rust issues fixed before they become major problems and then repaint the bay in the origin…

I was told that I need a shop to do it because they facilitate a lift to support the car equally. I was also told that doing the pans without the car being supported by a lift will cause the car to tweak /change shape because of the unibody const being weakend. Is this a potential prob or can I do this in my garage on the weekend?

I recently got my first car back.... 73 240z. I am excited to have it back and am looking at getting it running and looking good. Its pretty rough right now. My question, how hard is it to do a full restoration (ie frame off type, bead blasing etc)?

I just purchased a 72 240Z parts car and some misc. parts. There were two quarter panels and some other panels included in the deal. From the tags it looks like the quarters are for a 74-78 260/280. I can't find the tabco number on their web site and no luck searching for the numbers on the other tag. These parts may be at least 13 years old or older as the car had not been on the road since '95. Can these be used on a '72 240? I am asking because the current patch panel offerings seem to span 70-78. These panels cover much more than the ones I've seen currently for sale. The PO was going to "fix" the car with these panels. Thanks, Steve
