I did some searching about removing the tray and what I found involved a "spot weld cutter". For us newbies who do not own this tool what is the best way to remove the tray. What few hits I got said something about the spot welds being drilled, I looked all over the tray and don't really see where these would be...am I just missing something very obvious? On the side of the tray it looks like I could pry on it but I don't want to bend the tray, as I need to reuse it but I do need to get to the big hole under it. Sooooo, how do I get this thing out with simple man tools......:stupid:

In another thread I asked about hoods and it was recommended that I contact the local Nissan dealer. I did that and was quoted $450.00. Is this good, bad or indifferent? That would probably be about the same with shipping from MSA. Thanks all

One of the PO's of my project Ziebarted the thing. I could shake his hand coz it hasn't rusted and kick his butt coz I can't get the stuff off where I want to. Anyone have any tricks for removing this stuff? I've tried adhesive remover, actetone, gas, grinding, sanding, scotchbrite disks, and scraping. About the only thing I haven't tried is MEK. This stuff is laughing at me.....

Does anyone have a good picture of a firewall with the holes for the heating hoses? There are several more holes in my firewall from an aftermarket AC unit and I am not sure which ones to have the body shop weld closed. An original firewall with just the heating hose holes would be great. Thanks. Carl

Well, I bent up my front valence after I put the BRE spook on and hit one of those annoying concrete blocks that they sometimes put in parking spots. So, I decided to get that fixed, as well as get rid of the mirrors that the PO put on the car, put new ones on in the correct position (others were too far forward), deal with some minor bubbling on the door behind the mirrors and in the passenger side dogleg, get rid of a crease someone was kind enough to leave in the passenger door and finally get some dings in the sills taken care of. The body guy at the shop is the son of the guy that works on my Z (for stuff I don't want to tackle), and worked there for several years…

Hey guys, Sorry I haven't stayed in touch much----work is trying to kill me. I do have a question for you though if you don't mind. Seems there was a discussion about keeping the blackend out portion of the radiator support. What I mean is--- during build (or a repaint) what was black instead of body color there, what kind of paint was used (flat black?), how do you think it was applied, and why was it done that way? Seems to me it is similar to the black applied around the door openings. Do you think it is the same? Anyone have any pictures of this they could post? The paint shop is finishing up the engine bay in preparation for the drive train, and brake, fuel lin…

Ok, need your opinion on emblem location on a BRE style rear spoiler. . 1) Should I install emblems on the spoiler? . 2) Install just the "240Z" emblem, "Datsun" Emblem, or both? . 3) Where to locate emblem(s)? Figured it's all been tried before, so why re-invent the wheel... Post pics if you have them. Thanks!

I can finally say it. My car is finally going to the shop to be painted. It has spent the last few weeks being media blasted to remove the paint and rust. The body shop guy seems really excited to get to do the work on an old z car. Theres a lot of work to be done to repair the rust issues. I have a chopped up 71 240z to use for parts (frame rails etc.). I have dragged that car around with me for the past 6 years. I will post pictures when its done. The body shop said they would have it done within 2 months. That seems great compared to the horror stories I've read. He He He, I am so excited. carl:p

This one is for the techies- Last night I was watching this program on Discovery about how they make stuff. This one was on caskets. Once of the very first things they do is weld a big zinc bar on sheet metal for for bottom. I'm no metallurgist so don't quote me on this, but it's purpose is to stop the outflow of electrons from the metal to stop corrosion. They said it was so strong that it actually attracts them and totally stops the metal from corroding. It got me thinking, why not just buy a big chunk of zinc and weld it to the car? Would that not do the same thing as the casket? If this works, it would seem like you could do this with any car.

I pulled the fenders off the 73 and found a hole where the bottom bolt was supposed to hold the fender to the body.(see 2nd pic in photoshop) I expected this as I knew there was a problem in this area when I looked at the car. Is there a replacement panel I can weld in here? Same on both sides. I did a search in several locations that cover the rocker panel but I think this is the area in front of the rocker. Anyone with any experience in this situation? Thanks, Mike
