I just recieved a rear bumper I purchased on ebay for my 1972 Z. It is not exactly what I expected. I knew it was going to have to be rechromed but I was not expecting the condition of the inside to be as it is. I asked the seller if the inside had any rust and the answer was "the inside shines". Well after the seller wire brushed it and put some kind of clear coat on it, it shines. It is still a good solid straight bumper. Back to my question; is there any prep work I should do or have done on the interior of the bumper prior to the rechrome? I want the bumper to be as new when I get it back. Can someone help me with this, is there an existing thread on this? Thanks…

I noticed on the Datsun color charts 901 is called Silver and Silver Metallic...Was it a metallic from the factory or just a silver enamel? I will be painting the 73 I picked up last week in the near future and the original color is 901, I will be going back with that color but wasn't sure if certain years had metallic while others didn't. Thanks, Randy PS.....If you have a 901 silver post up a picture please.

Hey guys, I plan on spending the Fall stripping all the old paint off a 1973 240 and have a really stupid question. Once I take off the paint will the car begin to rust on the surface? I figure this will be a several week project on the weekends and wasn't sure if what I'm planning to do is the right way to go about it. I have never done this before, but it seems I remember someone saying once a car is stripped it needs to be primed ASAP. What is the correct way to do this. I just want to get all the old paint off and see what areas need to be repaired, but don't want to paint the car right away. Thanks for any help

My '72 is all sandblasted and epoxy primed and rust repair is underway.:classic: I know what's ahead of me for the next few weeks, but I'd like the opinions of those who have "gone before me" on one aspect. That is what to do when repairing the rust damage on the front crossmember. A photo of the current situation is attached. While it's not blatantly obvious from the photo, there is rust-through on the backside of the x-member between the oval openings. It is worse between some than between others. Numbering the ovals 1-6 from L to R, there is no apparent rust between 1-2 and the worst is between 3-4. I think you can see the extent on the others. My thought is to…

It's been a year since commencing the teardown of my 1972 Z, #81167, and it's finally off to body and paint. Finally found a good shop nearby that didn't flinch at the project and quoted me a reasonable price! Said it would take about 9 weeks to do, so I'm budgeting 12weeks.... Here are some pics as it leaves home for a 3-month spa treatment...Wish me luck and send some good vibes for a smooth unevetful paint job and satisfying result! Steve

As promised, a another progress pic of my 1972 240Z project. Here's a pic of the engine bay. It's about 90% ready for the engine. Still some details to take care of before I scratch things up installing the engine... Removed the differential on Sunday to find I need a new front mount. The rubber is starting to separate from the metal carrier so I ordered a new part. Was on my back last night painting the underside of the transmission tunnel and have a few tiny flecks of silver paint on my face to prove it... The fun continues!

Has anyone come across a place to buy a hatch sill plate other than Z car restorations? New fabrication or a full cut from a parts car either is fine. Restorations has them but as they clearly advise it is the leftover from cutting quarter panels and tends to have the ends trimmed off 2-4"s:ermm: Thanks SB

Some of you may know that I'm in the process of rebuilding my '72. As of this afternoon, the sandblasting will be finished and it will be on to the body shop for panel replacements, etc. My car was 918 orange when I bought it in 1971 and I want to repaint it orange. However, I don't want to go with the OE color and we're going to do base coat / clear coat. What I want is the most eye-popping orange that's out there. The color I want is "Arrest Me, Officer" orange. In fact, years ago when I first thought of repainting the car, I considered throwing Day-Glo orange pigments into a clear Imron over a white base to get a fluorescent "Blaze" orange. However, the organic D…

Just got home from trailering my car to the sandblaster. It turned out to be fairly easy and straight-forward, even though we had prepared for something more elaborate. I've had the shell on a rotisserie (see attached photo) for about a month as I was finishing up the removal of the last bits of hydraulic lines and wiring harnesses as well as scraping off undercoating (oh, what a F-U-N job that is). We were expecting to have to use an engine hoist to place the shell on a body dolly to make the transfer, but my body guy thought that the rotisserie was strong enough to handle things for the 5 mile trip. We pushed the loaded rotisserie onto a flat-bed trailer (remarkably…

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone out there could take a few bolt measurments for me? My car has been in paint jail for the last 18months and he tells me that it is jammed and ready to hang the sheetmetal back on so he can now spray the rest of the car. One of the things I wanted to do was replace some of the body bolts with something slightly different but the same thread size and pitch (only change the head style like panhead torx and cap head allen's) but I have the original bolts in storage and the car is 2 hrs away for me to go check the jamb nuts for size and pitch. Below is a list of the ones I need to get, if possible could someone with a tap and die set or a ca…
