I read the thread on stripping the cars, and understand (i think) the pitfalls. However, I helped a friend paint his 914 and we only surfaced preped for a new paint job. It turned out great, except where we had sanded some portion to the original metal. The shininess bled through and you could see, not feel the difference. My car has a gazillion layers of paint, in some cases I I have sanded to bare metal, how do I cover these? Just priming will not work as I have a solid 1/16th of paint height diference. What system should I follow? This particular 280z has very little rust areas to repair. Also, the interior metal is in great (original) shape. I simply wish to …

I need some expert advice on installing this new MSA rear valence panel. Besides being way overpriced- IMHO- it doesn't seem to have the compound curves to lay right on the back. It is hard to get the best angle on this with the camera, but i think you'll see that the panel wants to bow out in the middle along the bottom-almost bend. The panel comes almost completely flat, so it is not rolled on the bottom or side to side. If I force the panel to to lay correctly width wise, it wants to bow out somewhere along the bottom. What part you don't see of the panel is up top,the replacement panel has a 90 degree bend to match the cars panel under the tailights. I thought i might…

Emblem Removal 1 2

What is the secret for removing the "240Z emblem" directly behind the quarter panel windows on the drivers and passenger side? I have stripped the interior panels. The left side I can feel and barely see the aft pin which has some type of cone shaped lock on it. The right side is not accessible since it is buried behind the plastic vapor tank. Same question for the "Datsun emblem" on the front fenders?

I priced a new windshield seal for my Z out of Black Dragon Auto, and they have 2. They have an OE version for $270, or a repro version for $40. Now I'm sure the OE is somehow better, but is it 675% better? The cost of the repro version seems to good to be true. Has anyone had a problem using the repro windshield seal from Black Dragon? Should I just spring for the OE version? The car will always be garaged, and only driven in nice weather, no Massachusetts winters.

How do you remove the window glass from it's bracket/backing plate (78 Coupe)? I've removed the 4 fasteners that appear to secure the glass to the bracket, but I can't seem to pry the glass loose from the groove it fits into. There appears to be 5 or 6 black rubber guides that "pinch" the glass tight into the groove, but the glass is wedged into them so tight that I'm afraid I'm going to break the glass if I keep trying to pry it out. The main reason I'm trying to remove the glass is that the backing plate is pretty rusted in numerous places, and the only way to attack the rust is to remove the glass. I'm going to have to do this for both windows. Thanks in advance for …

I have been searching for correct replacement decals for my Z, and thought I found one for the 1972 emissions decal from Zeddsaver...But, my part number on the original is 14805-e8801 while the one I purchased is e8800. There's obvious differences in text, see the attached pics below. Everyone else (Zeddfindings, Banzai, MSA) sells emission decals for 1970 and 1971, but not 1972, Anyone know around what date they changed the part number? Thanks

Not sure if this is right for this forum, but is Nissan bringing back the old colors? I saw a 350Z the other day that I could swear was 918 orange. While that color looked OK on an S30, it seemed totally out of place on the 350.

This is a far better option than POR-15/Eastwood Rust Encapsulator. I used RE on my rear undercarriage. It worked good, but in some spots it flaked off. This required scuffing and another application. When it dries, it's a flat finish. That means it's going to get dirty and stay dirty especially on the underside of the car. I wound up going over with rustoleum. On another Z I'm working on, we used the SEM paint. I liked how it performed so I bought a gallon for myself. Aside from the STRONG solvent smell, it's better in every way. It's half as much as RE and less than half the cost of POR. Application is very smooth, it spreads easily and dries perfectly to a nice flat s…

BRE Air dam 1 2 3

Any recommendations on a BRE type air dam for my 72? I decided I was going to put a smaller lip spoiler/air dam on the front. I noticed MSA carries them with and without vents. Are they the best place to get one, or has anyone found a better place? Also, probably gonna replace my hood as well. Since I'm not racing I was thinking of sticking with the metal one. Any rec's on where to buy one? Thanks, Meanie

I found this belly/splash pan on eBay.... Seller represents it as off a 240Z, but if memory serves me well, it's off of a 280Z.... Please correct me if I'm wrong. I have one waiting to go on my '72 240Z that does not have the hole for the radiator hose (and I think several other differences as well). I resurrected mine from my (now deceased) '73, and am pretty sure it's a proper fit for the '72.shttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/240z-Belly-Pan-OEM-Rare-Under-Motor-260z-280z-Datsun-NR_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ42611QQihZ011QQitemZ320234027276QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Am I thinking correctly?
