For those of you who have had their cars dipped or sandblasted, what product did you use to insulate the wiring harness fixing tabs in the engine bay. I could use some heatshrink on them but I'd rather try to find something as close to stock as possible. Can you buy a liquid form of rubber that sets once exposed to air? It would be difficult to do but it could be done with a lot of prior testing. Cheers James

Iv'e posted in Body and Paint on a few occasions and have had the chance to meet quite a few really good people in the process. Iv'e also owned my 260 for just over 20 years. Today I said goodebye to my old girl for the last time. We had alot of good as well as bad times, and I'll remember them all fondly. You see, I had an offer I just couldn't refuse and the young man who purchased her today had the same look in his eyes I must of had 20 years ago when I first laid my eyes on her. He's a Military Man just like I was back then. Theres only one catch to this story. In four months, he'll be putting her on a ship to take back to his home country of Kuwait. He's a Helicopte…

Well, that was the best description I could think of! With prices of *NEW* 240Z tail lights so prohibitively expensive, I wonder whether anyone out there has tried restoring their existing tail lights? I recently tore mine apart to find that you can easily soak the entire light in hot water, then pull the lense away from the backing. That allows you to get in there with cleaning products and really brighten up the lenses. But, the chrome thingies that run across the lenses are the problem. Unless you're lucky enough to have the plastic chrome in good condition (I'm not), then you're left with a problem standing between you and a set of completely mint tail lights! …

My neighbor up the road from me has a body shop so I stopped in on the way home today to see about painting the Z. He said he was not able to do the job because he has too much collision work lined up and would not even quote a price . Hint taken. His recomendation was go to Macco for $750 and have them do it but he said it would only last about 3 years. The car is prepped ,no windshield ,bumpers, badges, locks so it would need to be towed around for prices. He doubted any shop in the area would touch it although I will ask around. He said if I paint it use a single stage solid color for my needs as BC/CC would be too difficult to do at home with my equipment. So any opinio…

After about 2 weeks of working on the Z, I finally made enough progress to show off. I made (another) blasting booth in my garage and rented a blasting pot and a trailed air comressor and went to work on the body. Then I literally spent 7 days stripping bondo and paint off with heat, stripper, sanding disks, putty knives, etc. I'm really glad I got all the paint off before I send it away to the body shop, I found a few areas that need some torch work. My new neighbor has volunteered for about 3 whole days so far, and hes willing to show me how to weld for the next steps. I figure the car has been original 918 orange, then a black top - blue bottom combo (the black pain…

Over Christmas while I was visiting my parents, my mom backed her Exploder into my 260. Dad offered to repaint the whole car as long as it didn't go over $2k. So...I figure, get a good place to do the body & prep, go to Maaco for the paint. I want to bo back to the stock color, whch was light blue, but I'd like a touch of panache. At this point I'm thinking a silver stripe starting on the hood bulge, going over the back of the car...I'm thinking it needs something just a bit more than that, possibly matching silver rockers. I'd like it unique, but not tacky or flashy, more subtle. Also, I'd like to get the stock valence back on there and go with a BRE airdam. T…

What would you guys suggest to use to prepare the rear panel for painting? I just got a spray can of gray paint from Les at Classic Datsun Motorsports and want to do this right. Thanks, Bob

Hi all, Looks like I'm fast becoming a Quality Surveyor with my panel shop. The new floors are in but he has omitted to extend the two rear pan support plates (shown in the attached photo to the right). Can one of nice chaps take a close up of both sides and reply to this thread with measurements as well. Also the two pan support channels have holes in them (shown in the attched photo to the left). I have new channels on mine and he's not noted where they old ones were. Can someone also let me know how far from the TC rod bracket these are and also the diameter. Looks like M10 to me but I want to be sure. Are these holes open or are bungs installed? This is a case of …
