My '73 Z (MFG date 12-72) has a small upper and lower rubber tab on the front of each quarter window that mates up with the door weatherstriping. I see the later one piece long moulding for sale on E-Bay. Was this a update that will fit my cars quarter window? My Datsun restore book states "on later models, the metal backed moulding comes off by removing four screws", but I see no threaded holes on my windows. The seller states they work on all 240Zs, and the small tabs are no longer available. Thanks, Doug

I just got my car painted and had the fenders and sugar scoops painted seperately. I see in the parts book there is a "packing" between the two parts. The Nissan part # 83811-E4101 comes up not available. Has anyone found something to use for this. Is it just a rubber gasket or is it like the fender welting on the old VW beetles. I am guessing it is thin enough that you don't really see it when looking at the fender after its been assembled. My car had nothing between the 2 parts. The packing is # 30 in the picture. Thanks

Hi All, Been thinking about finally doing some frame connectors to stiffen up the car (240z) and connect the front and rear rails. I was looking around the internet yesterday and saw that bad dog parts now offers new front/rear rails. Anyone have any experience with these? They look very nice, but i'm not sure how strong they would be. Am i just better off making my own from square tubing?

I recently bought a new aftermarket windshield to replace the original which is pitted and has scratch marks from where an idiot P.O. ran the wipers apparently with no blades. Since the person painting my car pulled all of the glass to paint it I figured this would be the perfect time to replace the windshield. I called a local auto glass place and they delivered a PPG brand windshield the next day. The good news is that the car is now painted and looks great; the bad news is that when they tried to install the new windshield it ended up breaking. They said they've broken them on the way out before but never while installing a new one. They couldn't figure out what …

I was recently involved in an accident (not at fault) and received some front end damage to my car "78" 280z. My question is should I try to get their insurance to pay for replacement parts and paint or are they going to try and pay for just the repair work? I guess what I am trying to ask is what has anybody done to repair or fix their vehicles?

Does anyone know if the green paint used on the 70/71 240's is basiclly the same as BRG. I think Datsun called it "Racing Green" but wasn't sure how the color differed from BRG. Also did they use this color green at all in 72/73? I want to add one more 240 to the garage but only want one in Green. Thanks for any input.

Hi, just wondering what various people have done in the way of sound proofing their inside floor pannels for those who have had to remove all of the tar matting during thier resto. I like the idea of a single spray in product such as stone gaurd (over an etch primer of course) as it has the benefit of not allowing dirt and water to get underneath it like the tar matting can. And it's thicker coating provides good scratch protection. I'm not sure if it would offer the same level of sound proofing though. Has anyone done this and found it obtrusively loud? Has anyone used some other product and had good results? Thanks!

I don't know if this will benefit anyone or not. I was in Rona Building Supply here yesterday and noticed a pallet of paint stripper. It comes in 5 gal. cans or 18.9 liters. They are clearing out the old skull & cross bone inventory. I bought a can ($29.95 CDN) brought it home and tried it out. It works as good as any of the aircraft stripper I've previously used. Just thought I'd throw it out there. If anyone wants some let me know.

Well, before I do any performance parts, or get into the interior which is all gutted out, how much would a good paint job be? The paint that is on there now is a crap job and needs to be sanded off. There are a few rust spots that need some work too before the paint goes on. Plus I am thinking of pulling the motor and getting the engine bay all painted pretty. How much has it cost you guys to get a nice paint job on your Z cars? I am also thinking of racing strips, so would that cost extra? Also, I want to protect the under body and was wondering if there is some kind of sealer that can be spray on and how much that might cost. I need to figure out how much this is …

It's time to get the body work and paint needed for my 73 240. I got several quotes for the work and will take the car in next week. I have already pulled off the bumpers and all emblems, and washed the grim off the car. What else should I do to the car before taking it in? Should I remove all the weatherstripping? Here are the before and after shots of the car, so if something sticks out that I didnt remove let me know. Thanks, Randy

Just passed the California smog test yesterday (woo hoo!). The Nox reading was high (borderline passed) but everything else was low. I have a 77 280z 2+2 and someone has the left and right front fenders from a stripped out 240z. He says they will fit on my car and the only difference is the size of the side lights. I' was told to replace the 240 fender with my original lights and there shouldn't be a problem. I'm just curious if anyone has done this? I have rust on both fenders right below the emblems. The 240 fenders are rust free and I figured this would be easier than having to weld some metal on them. Here's a pic of one of the rusted fenders. Any opinions ap…
