I am in the process of restoring a series 1 240Z build date 6/70. The lower door hinge full hold open mechanism has been damaged on both sides and the spring is missing on the passenger’s. I tried to replace them with series 2 hinges but, the lower part of the door does not fit. There is a tapered gap from the top of the door to the bottom both front and back and the rocker panels have a gap or over hang of 3/8 on an inch. Removed the series two hinges placed them on the bench and measured the distance from the bench top to the center of the hinge pin. The series two hinge is 3/16ths of an inch taller then the series one hinge. I reinstalled the damaged series one hi…

The easy first, are the Zapp decals still available anywhere ? Second what is the purpose of glazing putty (red putty in tube ) Am doing my first body work and not sure of all products, gonna paint it myself also, hell I cant do worse than some of these idiots out here. So far it is coming along good, had had to manufacture some small panels and cut out and weld in, pretty proud of myself, looking ok, of course Im ANAL, so if the filler dosent look right i take it all off and redo it again . here are a couple pics of the gas fill compartment that was rusted thru on the inside panel and on the outside body, I cut both out and hand made new and welded in.

Hi Folks... I ordered a few things from MSA, one of them being the BRE rear spoiler. When I placed the order for the spoiler, I asked the sales guy how the spoiler mounted on the hatch, he told me that it mounted to the side lip edge of the hatch, so I didn't think I would need to drill any holes into the hatch. Well that's not the case, to mount the spoiler I'll need to drill two 5/8 inch holes into the rear hatch something I'm really looking forward to doing on my fairly new paint job. The Datsun, and the 240z badges will also need to be removed and the mounting holes for them will need to be filled in, and painted. I can't rally decide if I should mount the spoil…

I just picked up my gas tank from being restored. It was the original 69 240z tank so I shelled out 375 big ones to keep it. It had extensive rust inside with numerous small pin holes in the bottom. I used a certified GAS TANK RENU place south of Indianapolis. It is interesting, I was expecting a powder coat kind of process but the exterior looks like it was sprayed with a thick tar like substance. It is not smooth but you can see where the substance ran and wrinkled a bit. The inside is a rust colored coating. It has a lifetime guarantee so I imagine it should last. I will post pictures of before and after as soon as I can find them. Carl

Previous owner of my '71 Z removed the deck lid badges. I now have replacements, but when they painted the car, they covered the holes. From the underside, I can see that some of the barrel clips are still in position, just bondoed over to cover the hole. My fear is that if I try to re-drill these holes, the bondo and paint will chip out and make a bad place larger than the badge will cover. Even using a very small pilot drill bit could result in the patch chipping I'm afraid. If I purposely move over about 1/4 inch on all holes, would that be a terrible afront to the purist? I also can only see about three of these clips, so locating where to drill is another chall…

Hi, I just got a 1971 240Z and I think it has some missing parts. The tail lights are there but the license plate light and the two side lights and trim panels are missing. Or not ?I need a good close up viewof the same year car or a good parts diagram to show me what I need. Thanks.

Hi all, I recently had my front headlight buckets and valance painted by a local shop. The paint on my car is about 3-4 years old and was a pretty standard PPG color. The shop found the color and purchased a can of the same stuff. However, when they painted the headlight buckets, the new paint is slightly off and it stands out. I believe the color on my car has turned a bit darker over the years, so, the standard PPG color code is no longer applicable. My question is... Is this a pretty common problem? I'm sure it would be tough to find an exact match, but, what is normally done to make these colors match without an obvious line? The shop mentioned they were going …
