Does anyone have any experience on finding modern paint to match the 240z paint codes? I am most interested in the yellows - 112 and 919.

I'm trying to paint my 280Z. I'm painting individual panels so that hopefully I'll develop better technique when I get to the main bits. I've done urethane primer, and have just started the basecoat/clearcoat on the liftgate. I think the basecoat went on well enough. But, after the second coat of clear, I noticed some imperfections. Here is a picture looking into a floodlight reflection that accentuates the imperfections: There is, of course (for me), a bit of orange peel, but I would be happy with that if that's all I had to cut. But you'll notice the 'big dipper' star constellation just below that , which appear to be a set of stalagmites rising up. …

We have discussed differences in the dashes through out the various years, but I’ve never seen a discussion about the differences BEHIND the dash pad. There are wiring differences, 73 dashes have the lit controls and pull hazard switch, but I’m talking stuff you REALLY don’t see. This week I’m swapping a cracked dash pad for a Hung Vu reproduction dash pad on a fairly early 1970 240Z, VIN 27xx ish. I was having trouble fitting the old dash frame into the new dash pad, and wondered if the issues are related to the expected minor differences in the fancy new dash pad or something unique about the frame itself, There were a couple of screw holes in the HCP area …

I'm 'restoring' my 280Z. Years ago, I removed the big bumpers and put on a full aero kit, as seen here: I assume that this kit was designed to go over 240z bumpers, but I ran for several years with no bumpers at all. Now I've removed the rear part and filled in the holes, and removed the sides, which I think contributed to rusting out the rockers. But I think the front will still look good. So my question is, should I fabricate a bumper to fit under this fiberglass, perhaps from tubular or angle steel? I'm thinking it might provide protection to the radiator and A/C condenser in the event of a minor tap.

Has anyone tried the Motorsport Flush Mounted Mirrors (http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic02e03/50-1160). I replaced the original years ago, because I wanted two matching outside mirrors. Those turned to crap. Any other suggestions? I don't like the fender-mount mirrors at all. Thanks, Robert

Hey guys, I have a early 1977 280z with a #307 factory paint code and off-white interior. I know it is #307, because I found it written into the warranty booklet. It has had a repaint in a different shade of blue since the original. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has photos of #307 Pacific Blue on any z cars. I can't seem to find people with good photos, because they are only speculating that is the color. Is this a rare color code? Looking to repaint my Z soon and am not sure yet if I should go with the factory blue or a different shade. Will repainting it the factory color add any significant value over a different color? Not that it matters to much to me, but…

When replacing a Z's front frame rail, the T/C rod bracket needs to be separated from the rail so that it can later be welded to the replacement rail. The T/C rod bracket is secured to the OE rail by a combination of spot welds and a long seam weld. I'm looking for some guidance on the steps and tools that work best for separating the bracket from rail and whether this should be done before vs after the rail is separated from the rest of the vehicle structure. The brackets, BTW, used to be available as service parts (74830/78301-E4100) but are now shown as NLA on the Courtesy Nissan website.

I have a 1976 280z I am restoring that I have no gas tank for, while I also have a 77 280z with the space saver rear tire well and that car has a nice cleaned gas tank. My questions are: 1. Would drilling out the spot welds and swapping the space saver well into the 76 car allow me to run the 77 gas tank and fuel components in my 76? 2. What straps and modification would I need to do to secure the tank if it fits? 3. Would the stock fuel lines from the 77 fit in my 76 or would I have to modify or create my own lines? 4. Would the fuel filler neck from the 77 line up in the 76 car?

First, let me say 'hi' - I'm new here, but I've been on HybridZ for a few years. I'm painting my 280Z Grabber Blue (a mustang color), and I've read some interesting discussions here about painting. The car is in primer now (a light gray), and I'm curious about the cowl area under the cover. I had to patch some swiss-cheesy areas there, and what I didn't patch I sprayed with POR, and it's now all covered in primer. I've seen in this forum that the factory originally left the cowl in primer, and also that others have painted it black. I was going to paint it with the blue, but now I wonder if that won't look good to see the blue through the louvers in the cover. If so…

I'm working on a restoration project for a 73 Z. I'm trying to figure out what the proper mating should be between the back of the front fender and the front of the rocker panel. Currently it appears there is no visible seam where they come together. You would think there would be a visible seam where they butt together. I think the previous owner may have just bondo 'd the seam then sanded it smooth. The z service manual doesn't really show a clear illustration on how they come together. I dug out a few pics I had of the 71 I owned years ago but I cant tell from that either and no visible seam is appears. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks in advance for y…
