I believe this has been brought up before, but I'm bringing it up again. What would be that advantages and disadvantages to using POR-15 on the outer and inner body panels? I was thinking of coating the inside of all of my body panels, and maybe the outside, and just wanted some advice and/or cautions. Mart

Anybody know how to re-key the cylinders to have a matched 1 key set or where to buy a set so I can have a one key set. I have four keys one for the igniton, right door, left door, and hatch. Having to search for the right key is getting really old.

K. here is the YAY part. I ripped the carpet and sound dampening (yeah right) material out of hte passenger side of my new Z. Th efloors look great, just the most minor of surface rust in a couple spots, and solid as a rock. I will clean and treat the areas with POR before painting, etc. But great news that it looks as solid from the inside as it does from the outside. Now the HUH? part. Since my last 2 Zs were rustbuckets, and I owned them almost 20 years ago, I do not remmber this. Under the sound dampening material (there is that joke again), there was this semi-putty-like black material. It bound that (you know the joke) to the floor. I am assuming this is fa…

hey guys, I am in desperate need of some body pieces for my Z. I need to get a lower valence, and a left side turn signal bucket. I don't need the signal, just the bare bucket. Mine was damaged in my accident, and now my dad is getting on me about driving his truck, so it's either spend $400 on some sheet metal, or see if any Z guys are willing to sell some parts for a good price. I'm in Sacramento, CA, and I am willing to drive a little ways to pick it up, if the price is right. Thanks guys.

Hi, I'll be painting in 2-pac for the first time on my 240. I've painted a couple of cars in the past but am by no means an expert. Using acrylic I liked to use lots of coats of primer/filler and lots of heavy rubbing between coats to get that nice smooth flat finnish, often rubbing right thru the coat I'd just applied to eventually fill any slight lows in the panel. I've been told the 2-pac will be much dearer but is this the primer or is it mainly the color that is dear? I don't want to skimp on the amount of coats I do but I tend to use so much paint when I'm using acrylic. What are the techniques you guys use to go from body filler to color? How many coats, what prod…

I was looking at getting an electronic auto darkening welding mask, as I want to have a go at fixing the rust on my Z. I have a cheap mig welder, which isnt particularly suited to the job, but thats another story. It came with a cheap mask, the kind you hold with your hand. The shop I went to (an auto store) had solar powered ones. Has anyone any advice whether to get a solar powered one or a battery powered one. I didnt get the solar powered one, as most of my welding would be done at night time in a shed. but once I got home I started thinking that mig welding would produce UV radiation, which might power the mask? Anyone know if this is how they are designed to work? …

alright guys, just a quick and simple question. I need a hood, left fender, headlight buckets, and a lower valence for my 240Z. I was looking around at the local junkyards, and found a 280z that had all of these parts on them. My question is (and I know it's really basic, forgive me) will these parts from the 280z fit on my 240z just fine? I know there isn't too much of a difference in the 280's body over the 240, with the exception of bumpers, marker lenses, taillights, emblems, etc. So, will these work? I'm going to pull them tomorrow if they will!

Ok, I know this is a REALLY stupid question, but somone once was making fun of a car on Ebay because of this, so to keep the Z-police happy... What direction are the front side marker lights mounted? Specifically, is the thick end the front, or the back? (Yes, I know that the front fenders get the yellow ones...) Let the abuse begin, but please answer the question... eventually. I am trying to finally get this thing put back together, and I realized that I have never actually seen these mounted to the car, so I can't be sure which direction they are supposed to be mounted.

Hey everybody. I primered my car a few weeks ago, didn't get around to taking pictures, and the ones I have are only from the rear and part of the driver's side. The first picture is of my shaved antenna and rear quarter emblems, and the second picture is just the back. - Ian

I have a '75 280, and I'm trying to compress the rear bumper shocks, so I can get a 240 bumper on. Now, I've already loosened that screw to let the air out, but the left one still has about 2 inches left where it seems it should be able to compress more, but it wont budge any farther, after relentless beating. The right side wont go in at all, any ideas? I really dont want to have to drop out the tank and remove em. :stupid:

Onmy '78 280Z, the door lock tumblers are fine, but the arm connecting the barrel to the locking thing seems to have worn out the hole in the arm where it attaches to the lock barrel. To unlock the door, you need to turn the key, then wiggle it up & down a some to get the lock knob to come up. Sound familiar? I've looked at it when I got the car, and the door panel was off, and it (the lock machanism layout) does't look a lot like the parts diagram, so I think the lock might be a later style ('79?) unit. the car is supposed to be an 11/78 build. My idea is to make a new arm of steel or whatever to replace the one with the worn-out hole(s). Can anyone tell me …
