I am looking changing my bushings and ball joints and replacing the springs and struts. Since I have the suspension taken apart I also would like to paint the parts. My goal is to do something that looks nice for the short term. I only need this to last 3-5yrs because I will be doing more extensive resto work in the future. So, I'm looking for a fairly easy way to apply the paint to the parts so that it hold and look decent for a fairly short period of time. I just finished taking everything apart and tomorrow I am going to start working on cleaning up the parts and stripping them down to the bare metal. I have the basics: a wire wheel, a few wire brushes, some degre…

UPOL primer

Has anyone used this before. My neighbor sugested using this when I do spot work instead of using typical rattle can laquer primer which I found out does not work well with urethane bc/cc system. It is also in a rattle can but he said it is more compatable , basically 2k epoxy in a can I guess. I just have a few (dozen)spots to putty and smooth out before the repaint if spring ever comes and would hate to mix a 2k epoxy then cleanup gun for spot work. It's amazing how the impefections show up once the clearcoat goes on.

I was looking at some pictures of a restored Z. Though I doubt it was painted the original color (red) it had the front of the radiator support painted black. Now I know some of the early Z's that were lighter in color (green, white, yellow) had the radiator support painted black at the factory. I was wondering which years or colors had this painted? Anyone? I'll try and find a picture to post.

Ok, So now that I have a good idea on how I am going to work on my frame rails and put on a new undercoating on my car comes the fun part of putting the car on a rotisserie. I saw this link for a different sort of rotisserie http://www.cjautos.org.uk/phdi/p1.nsf/supppages/cjautos?opendocument&part=4 Any opinons of this? Sources to buy or plans to build? Would this damage my suspension or other parts of my car? I don't plan on doing a full strip of my car (the engine will still be in it) but most of the body panels will be comming off and other stuff. Second, I know there is a guy in Houston who makes rotisserie's for z's? But I couldn't find his information. Also is…

The outter seal on my windshield is pretty shot. If I take out the outter seal, will the windshield fall out? It really needs to be replaced, but when I tried to pull the glass out of my parts car the glass cracked. Any advice? - Ian.

OK.....I'm pretty green when it comes to body work......but I am a welding fool, and not scared to dig in. Anyway, I have just started stripping the paint from the car and have noticed plenty of filler/bondo on the roof. When I remove it and get down to the bare metal, there is no rust, or noticeable uneven spots. Keeping in mind this is from the untrained eye viewing sandpaper scratched metal. This car has been repainted at least once in its lifetime, and it was not a prestine job. Is this common to find filler in this area on what seems to be healthy metal? I am not talking quarter size spots, it seems to have been spread evenly over large areas. Probably a dumb questio…

Mounting emblems 1 2
by ddezso- 20 replies

Hey guys - another question (or a bunch of em). I am taking my Z in today for a some work. One thing I wanted help with was properly mounting all 9 emblems. I was asking my Z guy to drill the holes (they were filled when it was painted last) and use the tabs to properly mount the emblems to the body. He suggested that he could certainly do that and it would take some costly time, or I can just cut off the emblem tabs and use double sided tape to adhere the emblems. I have certainly heard of that method before but wanted to get your feedback. Is the double sided tape method professional looking and worthy of a fine Z car? Do taped on emblems live through water and c…

Greetings! I'm new to the forum and from the various threads I've perused, most people here really know their stuff. I have a 1976 280Z car that is a very strange egg. Background story: Bought it off ebay for a "cheap" price. Drove it from Seattle, WA, to Memphis, TN and was almost killed by the exhaust fumes. After looking around, found a rust hole in the back hatch AND the spare tire wheel well was totaly rusted through. I've looked all over for replacement wheel well sheet metal, but cannot find one. Any suggestions? this is the well in which the actual spare tire resides. (Called on place today and they didn't have a clue what I was talking about) Any hel…

Hey folks.... I just pulled off the corroded steel brake/clutch and fuel lines, and discovered the degree of dry rot in the rubber bushings which held the steel hard tubes to the body-wall mounting clips...No way can they be salvaged! Has anyone found a source for these rubber bits? Usual suspects don't have them in the catalogs...Ed, ZSaint, anyone who's completed a recent resto? I've included an annotated pic of Ed's engine bay for clarification.... Thanks! Steve
