This is the sideview mirrors I have right now (first attachment). The pivots are getting loose, and I tightened them up all it goes, so I would like to replace these with newer ones. I saw something similar on the MSA website, but I'm not sure. Maybe somebody here recognizes this unit? the mirror attaches to the baseplate with the single screw to the hole between the two slots. An alternative idea I had was to get some motorcycle mirrors and make a baseplate that screws to the door in place of the one that's there. There is a hole about 20mm in the door under the plate in the picture so a mirror's axle/spring/nut can go through. The motorcycle mirrors look real rac…

I'm getting close to getting rid of my 72 parts car. There are a few things left that I'd like to see go to a good home instead of the crusher. I'll post some pictures tomorrow. Some items left: L24 with a E88 head (condition unknown, turns over) 4 speed (condition unknown) R-180 (ratio unknown) All suspension components (mostly rusted) Gas tank (exterior rusted, interior unknown) Steering column E-brake handle Both seats (backs o.k., seats ripped) Some of the interior pannels, black, fair condition Some glass Window mechanisms I will also take requests on any sheetmetal parts that anyone wants, for instance the battery tray/firewall area is in decent shape, no rust throu…

I just purchased a mint condition 1978 280-Z. It has chrome guards on front and rear bumpers, rear window louvers, and black pinstriping. I purchased a similar car new in 1978 and I know these weren't standard equipment. I believe the guards and louvers were part of a dealer sport package or something similar. Does anyone know for sure? How about the pinstriping? Could that have been part of the same package? Thank you in advance.

I am nearing the time to order the air dam for my Z. I see that MSA offers them in both fiberglass and urethane. Is one better than the other? It seems like the urethane is the better choice because it isnt going to get busted up so easily. Last thing I want is having to repaint every six months because I screw it up coming into my drive or something. Any opinions? Advice? Thanks!

I recently got my first car, a 72 240. Now this car has a fairly new repaint on it, but it was a very cheap job. It has a run or two, what looks to be puddles, and generally not a good finish at all, that isnt even uniform throughout the car. I dont think that it is clearcoated. Now i really dont have the money to get a new paint job right now, and this is only my first car so im not looking to spend a great deal of money on the car on something that i cant transfer to my next z. basically, I am asking how i would go about bringing a nice shine to a cheap paint job. The things that come to mind are sanding and buffing, and clearcoating, but as i am not a paint specialist …

So I'm sitting here thinking of my enemy: rust. I'm the kind of person who likes to do something once and do it right, but in the case of Z bodywork, I'm a little stumped...what exactly is involved in "doing it right"? I'll do all the reading and learning I have to, and am willing to spend hours and hours in the garage, so that isn't a problem. I guess what I'm asking for is a procedure for 'doing it right' (being the refinishing of a Z car body), and hopefully, a list of tools I'm going to need to acquire. I have an entire summer to spend working on this (between work and my girlfriend), and the goal is to have everything pieced together, painted, and running smoothl…

I had a wild idea strike me last night... I was trying to think of "different" and "wild" paint job ideas for my Z and i thought about trying to do a sharks mouth and teeth like on older planes and bombs in ww2 and in other times... so I started to look around online for ideas or pictures to see if anyone else had tried so I would get an idea of the look but I had no luck... so I was wondering if anyone here knew if that kind of paint job had a certain name or knew of anyone who had tried it or if anyone just had pics or knew where I could find them... well post here or PM me or IM me on AIM at ytz750 if you can help thanks.

I finally have gotten the time and money to refurbish the '70 240Z to it's rightful splendor. Here is shot of the engine compartment after removing all the old Ziebart and shooting with the new Nissan white I'm using. Wire looms have been retaped. I'll get the shot in here as soon as my images are posted.

I did a search but found nothing on this subject. Can anyone direct me to some information about the most desireable early Z colors? I had a '71 30 years ago which was the #920 Gold or Mustard color. There didn't seem to be that many with that paint. I'm looking at a '70 to restore (recondition) and it will require paint. I would lean towards the Gold color for nostalgia reasons, but wouldn't want to put all the work into it and then have a color which is not regarded very highly. What are your thoughts on it?

I was out Saturday with my better half running errands, which found me standing in a Borders at the newsstand. On the shelf was a Classic Car magazine which had an article on 240Z's (collector status/resto/whatnot). It's a British magazine I believe. One of the things it mentioned was the fact that ALL Euro/Asian 240/260's shipped with a front valance spoiler that was not offered in the USA. Unfortunately, the photospread in the magazine was somewhat lacking, and I was wondering if anyone here could point me to some detailed pictures of this spoiler? They did give a British resto house that offered reproductions for sale (http://www.fourways-engineering.co.uk) but the sit…
