Hi all; Help. I have a limited budget and a big dream. Later this spring I'd like to turn my poor, ugly, old '74 260z racecar into the automotive equivalent of Salma Hayek. The body panels are straight and need no replacement (see my avatar). The nose is beat up and the tail looks naked and BORING! Street cars look best when understated, but racecars are seen from a distance and should look exotic, mean and aggressive as the Lord intended. I've seen a couple of body kits with skirts, flares, a nose and rear wing for 600-900 bucks but I still need more ideas. FYI - this car competes on full size 2-mile road courses at well over 120 mph. A big, nasty rear wing would not on…

I have a new found respect for anyone that works in the auto body business. I've been sanding on my old z for 2 months and just when I thought I had everything right I sprayed the color. It looked like shat! So I sanded for another month. I read an article on block sanding and the guy claims that he's been sanding for 30 years and stated he was either an expert or just stupid! I would classify him as mentally deranged! SANDING SUCKS.......but as they say "a good paint job is in the prep work" and I can now say from experience that painting a car is easy but it truly is the prep work that counts!! As the master of shortcuts I can tell you there are none in painting. …

I'm going to do my best to do as much prep work before the z goes to paint. That being said, what grit sandpaper should be used to strip the paint down to the metal? Also, what tools?, circular sander?, what speed? preferrred body filler for dents? Thanks guys.

I was looking at a Matra Murena frame lately, and Paf it got me thinking again! The fibber-glass body is glued to the steel frame… Yes glued, the car is almost 25 year old now and still very sound and rock solid! So here's the old “What if :knockedou Aren’t we going the hard way to repair big flat panel with welding when we could just treat the rust by cutting or POR15 and glue a metal sheet ? If the surface was wide enough, would it have the same strength? Where are we today on glue tech? Any 3M guru on this forum? Glue is everywhere today, and I bet aircraft and spacecraft use it more than we think, maybe it’s an area of improvement for us ?

Has anyone got thoughts on these, item 7961632663? I see they're over $300 with 2 hours to go. I was thinking that maybe a japanese product might fit better. Seeing that they're ss trimmed I figure they must be older when quality counted for more than it does now. I just bought some of the single screw covers for my 71 240Z and they don't fit properly (bulge out nearly 1/2" at the bottom). I'm very disappointed although the price was decent. I tried fitting them to a set of metal scoops too and the poor fit was the same. Guess I'll post them and hope to recoup some money.

Can anyone tell me if the 240z colour combinations were common to all countries. The reason I ask is that a friend of mine has an early rhd car (#99) which is 907 green, all the area's that would not normally be painted as part of a respray are also green which leads him to believe that this id the original colour but this car has a black interior, the only references I can find report green cars as having tan interiors. The paint code sticker is very worn but could possibly be 901 silver which would explain the black interior, however, the car has just had a bare metal respray and there is no trace of any old silver paint anywhere on the car. He has just had the car pain…

Z Car Home Page list Paint Codes and Interior Colors for 1970 Through 1976 model Zs but no interior colors. I'm I wrong in assuming they were black? The reason I ask is, there is a 260Z for sale on E-Bay that show a fabric interior of Blue and white stripes. I'm hoping Carl Beck will respond, as he is the contact person at Z Car Home Page. :nervous: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4538628324&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT 1970 and 71 Model Year Cars 901 Light Metallic Gray or Silver Metallic 903 Blue (till 8/71) 904 White (till 7/75) 905 Red (till 8/71) 907 Dark Green (till 8/71) 918 Orange 919 Yellow (till 8/71) 920 Gold…

I have two sets of covers. One set mounts flush with the scoop edge rubber edged aftermarket type). The latter (JDM chrome trim ring) mounts overlapping the scoop perimeter. Is this correct? Did the OEM covers mount this way? Does anyone have pictures of OEM chrome trim ring covers installed?

I have an Aussie 73 240z which I believe is similar to the early US z's when it comes to the fuel tank vent hose. It sorta looks like a walking stick... Does anyone know where to get these and how much they are? I've checked VB and the catalogue doesn't have them in it. MSA's site has no pictures. Help, I'm p*ssing fuel everywhere!!

SEZ i weighted the 2+2. without bumpers, without AC system, all under carpet hard sound deadening was removed, and some engine componets, such as vaccun canister and things like that (see my engine picture). anywho, this was with me in the car, and with my stereo, subwoofer, all seats, and a half a tank of gas. only thing not installed was the center consol weight: 2710 lbs. i weigh 155, so that brings it down to 2555. that is AMAZING for a 2+2. they are NOT over weight at all. when my friend and i took the seats out and my stereo stuff, i got it down to 2610 with me in it. just wanted to put to rest the theroy that a 2+2 is heavy!
