OK, I admit I don't know what I'm doing. Be gentle. The project will be a race car, so it doesn't need to be concourse restoration guality. Of course, I want it to look good and last a long time. Stripping and sanding off the paint, some parts of the car are clean and now look great under a coat of primer. But there are some large sections of bondo and numerous smaller sections of bondo on the roof. There are also greenish spots that look like rust that has been repaired. Below are some pictures. My question is: How much farther do I have to go? Obviously, if I see unstable brown rust, I want to nip that. Do I need to dig out all the bondo down to the bare meta…

Unless I'm missing something, I think it's called the 'filler', the metal flange above the rear bumper on a 78 Z....it looks like it's spot welded on to the rear of the body. How is this piece removed? I'm stripping everything off I can before it goes to paint..engine and tranny included. Going from Black Pearl to Black Pearl.

I am ready to start assembling my Z. I have the brakes and struts at the machinists. He is ready to take them to the powder coater. I should have them back next week. I am wondering what order I should put things back on the car. I do not want to put parts on the car that will make it more difficult to assemble. I am going to put on the master cylinders today and attach the brake and gas lines. I will install the wiring harness next. When should I put the fuel tank in? The tub in on a rotisserie so I can get at things very easily. Some of my parts, lines, bolts, etc. are at the platers and should also return next week. Can someone give me a list of how they put their …

How do you remove trim above the both doors that runs the length of both doors and the rear window? Is this called the 'roof trim' or what? Note arrows in picture.

I'm in need of a front left and front right fender for my 78' 280. There is a good amount of rust on the bottom in front of both of the front wheels. Replacing the fenders may be cheaper than actually fixing the rust so I'm going to go that route. Has anyone ordered fenders from MotorSport or VictoriaBritish? If so, how well did all the seams, lines, and bolt holes match up? Any other suggestions to other avenues for parts is greatly appreciated.

I saw a picture of a 240Z with "European Bumpers"- all chrome, no rubber. I F*ckin hate the huge bumpers on my 280! Where can I find some of these Euros?

Hey guys, looks like I'm getting very close to body repair and paint, I just need one more patch panel and a hood and I will be set... I'm looking to convert my OEM chrome trim to all black... (including the rear) and I have been searching for pictures of S30 Zeds with this done... Also, I am open to any tips for painting you guys might have. I have read that the chrome is rather hard to strip and paint.. Aeronaughtical paint has been recommended to me for this task... I've also heard of "black chrome" but It is rather expensive... thanks ladies and gents. -Zzzap

Hi guys, I've been under my z today and found some external surface rust. I know it's only external because i pulled the carpet up and their is no rust inside. I don't have the time or money to completely strip the undercoating underneath, so i'm wondering if i can scrape the immediate undercoating around the rust off, scuf the rust up, and coat it with por 15. Do you guys think this will be a good fix? That will stop the rust from going any further correct? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks, Jay

Not sure if that's the technical term or not but my Z has this metal trim running the length of the car (see pic). Haven't seen many Z's with this and was wondering if this was a dealer option or not. If it was not a dealer option, I'll likely want to remove them. Has anyone done this? Are there holes behind the trim from the installation?
