I found an outfit in Palmdale / Lancaster, California area that is willing to get involved with the club. He is wanting to refurbish "Z" bumpers and accessories. I took a bumper to him, to have straightened, rubber mount strip holes welded shut, triple nickel chrome finish to show quality for $350.00. I have looked around for this kind of quality in the SoCal area, online and even some recommended shops. The average cost has been between $950.00 to $1375.00 for a complete bumper set and I have been somewhat unimpressed with the well known outfits customer service and quality. I talked at length with the owner and he might be willing to cut a volume deal or setup a club d…

In case you don't know. Line X is a similar product to Rhino Lining. A spray on liner used for the beds of pick-up trucks. I went to a body shop today to talk to the guys there about my car. We got on the subject of spraying Line X to the undercarrage and wheel wells. Now my plan was to strip to bare metal and protect it with POR-15. Then cover it with Line X. The body shop guy told me that the Line X can be sprayed directly to bare metal. No primer. And he said that it's guaranteed not to rust. The Line X is non porous and will seal the metal. If this is true then I could save a pretty penny and a lot of time. What do you guys think? Line-X

Just curious for those of us with the early Zs that have only one supporting strut for the hatch. Does your hatch not sit quite right because of the stresses from years of being supported on only one side? I'm wondering if I should try and 'improve' my 71 by swapping a later hatch and have two support rods.

I would like to have clean shaven bumpers on my 240 with no mounting holes for the rubbers. I think I have two options. I could weld up the holes on the bumpers and try getting the metal perfectly straight and gettem chrome dipped. And then there's the fiberglass bumpers that MSA sells. I want a chrome appearance so I was wondering if it is possible to get some kind of coating on the fiberglass ones like how new cars have a coating on plastic trim to make them look chrome. Is this possible?

I've tried doing a google search and found nothing, so I was wondering if you guys may know the availability of glass for the 240zs. I'm just looking at replacing my windshield and hatch glass after I've painted the car. I'll start calling local glass places soon too.

While removing my pass side headlight bucket, two of the four securing bolts sheared off (severly rusted). I had sprayed/soaked with wd40, but that didn't do the trick. There is still some bolt left, but not enough to pass through the fender. Has anyone successfully welded on an extension (should I try this)? Also, is there a better way to remove the rusty bolts or should I just accept that most will snap... Larry

Hey y'all, First postings today in the carb section based on my work with ZTherapy. I think this is a great board and see much quality input from the members trying to help each other. My major endeavor is as marketing manager for a rust and corrosion control product and it keeps me in the restoration forums some and there are a couple of forums that I'd like to pass along as first rate. I'd recommend posting any questions you have concerning doing any of this work not only well, but safely, to either of these boards and think the quality of the help you'll get, can't be beat anywhere. The 2 sites are www.autobodystore.com and www.paintucation.com. Go check'em out, che…

I am new to the site but i fell in love with the Z several years ago and i am currently shopping for one. I am distressed to find out that they suffer so greatly from rust. I was wondering if anyone had developed fiberglass replacement pannels to solve this problem. it seems to me that it could at leaste handle, the seem, and drainige situation. I have read several post but no one it seems has speifically adressed the issue of replacing the metal with fiberglass. Anyone's feedback would be appreciated.
