What started out to be a little rust hole had turned into the usual monster. Luckly for me my neighbor is a high quality body man that has a very good neighbor discount, at least for me Anyway the part I need to replace it Item 11 on page 25 of the VB catalog. His question is: is this a replacement panel (glue on over the top of the existing panel) which I guess is a common thing for a lot of replacement panels or a cut to fit and weld in panel? His preference and mine are a cut and fit panel but I need to know before I order and so that he can give me an estimate. Hopefully someone has gone this route before and knows first hand.

Hatch seal

Why is the price of the inner hatch seal from VB only $50 and the same from MSA is $125? Didn't see any reference to this wide disparity in price on any previous threads. Does one fit better than the other, is one OEM, does the VB seal work reasonably well? Beside price, the other reason I ask is that I bought the cheaper door seals from VB and they did not fit well at all. Do not want to make a similar mistake this time. Thanks, Victor.

Took the front wing off and cleaned up noticed some ugly tack welds where should be spot welds? Do you think the inner wing has been replaced? The rest of the welds seem ok. Is the standard under body treatment painted underseal?

I may have a source of some 77 panels (fender, hood, rockers, etc.) to use on my 71. I think most of the panels are interchangeable across these years, no? Thoughts?

I am currently restoring a 77 Datsun Fairlady Z in North Carolina. This is a RHD 2+2 that has been heavily modified and apparently left for dead at a junk yard. The car has a turbo hood scoop grafted into the original hood, 240z front turn signals for the front air dam, both front and rear spoilers and N42 block and head w/ cam(unknown spec) triple mikunis and a 6-1 header with free flowing exhaust. I have 3 questions about the restoration. 1.)Are the Euro and Jap style taillights the same? the car was hit in rear and one light replaced with an all red light other side has amber turn signal. 2.) The dash on this car is cracked all to hell. Would I be better off Getti…

Spotted a small bubble in the underseal on the LHS chassis under the wheel arch. Just behind the TC rod connection. Poked at it with a screwdriver with a nervous push and horror....through it went....into stale air. So after removing the guard it gain real access, I poked some more. There is what seems to be a factory strenghting plate there (maybe there to strenghten the TC rod mount??). The reason I say factory is that the whole area shows no signs of damage, the paint is matched and the underseal has not been touched. It was spot welded on and then underseal sprayed over it, got out the wire wheel to clean it up and IT turned up just fine, but it had holes in it. Anyw…

Pulling my Zed to bits and finding hidden places where the rust monster is hiding. Impossible to spot when I first looked at the car as you will read. Took off the airgrill panel and found some surface rust in only two spots. While there are lavish amounts of Fisholine used, it appears that it is not enough....or is the rust caused by a PO additon. Did the factory install some white (off white now) foam cushioning to the underside of the airgrill, directly in front of the drivers wiper pivot? (Sorry, but my digital camera is out again.*&^"£$^%!) I have killed it but just wondering if this foam is standard. BTW, I have cleaned all the fisholine off and wow....as good…

Made a start on the restoration today, and found some rust, bottom of front wing, lower dog leg, bottom of door shut panel (see attachment) and under the drivers seat. Nothing too bad, but was surprised at the thinness of the steel? Have posted in gallery ,don't know how long it takes to get approved. What gauge steel should I get to make the repairs? Nick

Hey guys, This is my first post so let me introduce myself, my names Jonny Wilkinson(yes the same as the rugby guy) I'm 16yrs old and I am the owner of a '71 240 that I am planning on restoring/doing up. The cars in reasonable condition and almost original condition minus a half roll cage and some other small things, but theres some parts of the body that leave a little to be desire IMHO. I'm looking for the advice from Aussie Zed owners. Where and who in oz sells body panels for 240's? With thanks Jonny Wilkinson
