hi all, what do you gather is the right thickness of lexan to use for quarter and rear window glass. The local place that stocks it apparently on has .093" which seems a bit on the thin side of things... suggestions? thank you. -e

I've read a lot on this site about how people are going about removing the "rubbery" insulation on the inside flooring of their z's. My question is why bother? Surely if the surface of the insulation is free of serious penetrations no water could get underneath it and any dampness that was under there when the cars were built would have caused damage clearly visible from below. My plan with my resto project is to wire brush the metal surfaces of the interior and POR those, I will then use their White Cote to completely paint the interior so it will match the exterior. Anyone got any thoughts?

hi guys, big fan of the zeds!!! After serching and veiwing a number of zeds I have found a good 2 seater 260z. Here is the delema with this one and every other zed (about 7 now) that I have looked at. the floorpan/underbody of these cars seem to corrode no matter how good contition of the cars themselves. This 2 seater has two holes in each of the rails underneth the car, along with other signs of infecton. Seeing as how the floorpan is fairly importatn to structural integrity, these holes in the rails are a big deal. so far welding, epoxy and patching are all I know of but usure of method and best application for the symptoms I am dealing with. how do you go about fi…

This was listed in Hot Rod under the new stuff. It is called Chassis Saver by Magnet Paints. It sounds a lot like POR 15. Here is the link. http://www.magnetpaints.com/underbody.asp

I pulled off both front fenders on the weekend. Not too bad apart from significant rust on both the fenders and frame at the bottom behind the front wheels. This also happens to be where the cowl drain points to. Anyway, I happened to look at Escanlon's gallery for some unknown reason and noticed he had fixed this cowl drain problem by attaching a tube to direct the water out of the panel. Once I fix the rust up I am definitely going to do something similar for my Z, as well as giving the whole area a liberal dosing of POR-15.

I am in the process of stripping the paint off of my 72 240z to fix rust and do bodywork in preparation for painting. I have rust around the gas filler. I need to remove the gas filler 'box' (box on inside of rear quarter panel which fill neck goes through) to patch the rust holes in the quarter panel around the gas filler door. Does anyone have any suggestions on what is the best way to remove the gas filler 'box'? Is it welded in place from the factory, or just held in place with seam sealer?? Also what is the best way to remove the chrome drip rail molding (without damage)? One more question....where is the best place (in the u.s.) to get patch panels (dogleg and …

Seeing as I will never be able to afford new bumpers, what do you all think about those aftermarket kits that add new nose and rear to the Z? I need to get whole body painted anyway. This price is sad http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6766&item=1876387671

I need to support the 79 280ZX for refurbing now that the engine is out. Can I support the body on 2 engine stands, each attached to where the bumper used to mount? Also, anyone have this pre-made in the Houston area that I can rent/buy/borrow? Thanks!!!

I am about to replace my roof on the "green" 73 240Z because I can't stand another day with the sunroof. I am trying to find someone who has actually done this for advice. I have seen the whole top chopped off and another rewelded on. I already have a donor roof. It looks to me like I may be able to just drill out the spot welds, cut the outer skin at the pillars, and the roof skin would come off. Am I dreamin'? "Too much sun in California" Steve

Door Glass Rubber 1 2

I'm looking to replace the rubber that fits between the glass (in the door) and the metal bracket that holds it in place. This rubber is sandwiched between two pieces of metal and keeps the metal from touching the glass. Can I still get this stuff?

I need a translation please... Several U.S. posts mention that the 'rocker panel' is a rust prone area. What is the rocker panel? Is it the sill? So... Hood = Bonnet(AUS) Trunk = Boot(AUS) Fender = Wing(UK) = Guard(AUS) Rocker Panel = ??
