Question - As I was removing the fiberglass headlight bucket on my 72 240z one of the studs broke. How is the best way to repair this? I was thinking about drilling this one out an epoxying a new stud in.

Hi, I have a general question about filling. I watched a petty good Eastwood video on youtube and in the video the guy used something that looked like a dark powder for flaw detection (to show scratches and pinholes, etc). He never mentioned what he used and I wondered if any of you could make any recommendations. I don't want to use paint because you'd have to sand if off again if you needed more filler. Thanks!

Is it just my old Z, so degraded by the sun, that is really hard to keep a clean windshield? I i get a a light haze within a couple of weeks of cleaning that is really hard to remove. For a while I thought it might duck(t) tape that I had on the seats releasing plasticizer, but it's gone now. Then I thought it was a small coolant leak, depositing antifreeze stuff, but that's fixed now. Whatever it is is difficult to remove. Windex and paper towels, Windex and shop towels, clean damp wash cloths from the house, newspapers, etc. none of the cleaning tricks work. The only thing I've found that works for a while is a new OCELO sponge, straight from the wrapper. No c…

Hi All I'm in the middle off restoring the grill on the front of my 73 240z. Unfortunately I've lost the nuts off 2 of the 4 vertical rods that hold the grill together. Despite various attempts I've been unable to identify the correct thread to replace the nuts. Any chance someone knows what thread these should be? Thanks in advance Paul

Put my 77' in for body work today to replace some typical rusted areas and get ready for paint. I had already stripped to bare metal to identify what and if parts needed replacement. One of those areas is the lower rear valence where the bumper spacer (lip) was. Going over it with the body guy he mentioned it would be wiser to replace than to repair the valence (too much labor involved for too many spots). I've found a few places that have that panel (new steel) . MSA and Zcar Source are pricey but the shipping to the east coast really makes it unreasonable. Zedd findings has one but I've never had much success in reaching them. There is another option with…

If you wanted to protect your headlamp covers between car shows, you could cover them with something like HeadlightAmor plastic sheets, which are expensive, or use Plasti-Dip spray-on clear. Then you just remove the protective cover for show. Does anyone tried this or have experience with it?

Howdy, I was able to pickup a replacement panel for my battery tray section, ( my current battery tray is fine, its the metal underneath thats is rusted through). I thought of a couple ways to replicate this piece by hand before i got the replacement section, but now that I have this template i might be able to whip up a replacement panel for others, anyone interested in something like this? I figure its worth making rather than salvaging more Z's for, maybe we can save a few from the crusher this way. I called around Arizona Z Car looking for this piece, and they wanted something like 600 w/ firewall for a replacement So glad i did not end up buying that pan…

Quite annoyed, placed and online order on 1/12/14 and received confirmation. I have called and emailed an nobody replies... not a great way to run a business. Next step report to PayPal and have my lawyer send a letter. So... if MSA stuff is too big and I don't want to do the "see what fits" thing... I am going to Steele Rubber her in NC and see if I can get them to help make 240Z weatherstrip profiles. PM if interested.

Can anyone tell me if the hatch hinge seals were painted body color from the factory? It seems a little odd to paint over rubber but I know the hinges and body bolts were installed prior to paint and then the actual hatch and hatch screws were assembled afterwards. Were the seals installed prior to paint or were the hinges removed from the body after paint to install these seals? Attached is a picture showing the area I am referring to. Right now the car is in primer. Thanks, Matt

Vintage Rubber has something called "Hatch Hinge Seals" http://www.vintagerubber.com/Datsun240ZHatchHingeSeal.aspx and are $125 for the pair. Does anyone know what they are for? What is the benefit of using them today? They are for the 240Z, but I'm interested in knowing if they would also fit the 280Z. I would say that if you take care to paint and fit the hinges, then you wouldn't need to cover them.
