There's no doubt that this is one of the hardest jobs to do on the Z. It's hard on the fingers, back and patience. The best advice on this site is removal of the glass and installing trim- on the seal and windshield-- off the car. I did do that on the rear hatch, and with decent success. I did nick the seal in two places, but I will take those results being I don't do this for a living. Another thing that might things easier is spending the money for the Nissan seals. One area you should go cheap on. Better coverage, better seal, probably tougher rubber too! Anyway, I decided not to pull the front windshield on the car, or altleast try it installed. First thing I did was…

I know this has been discussed and the general consensus is that the quality isn't great, but will these replacement locks last for a while? Mine have the typical shaft wear and they no longer move the arm far enough to push the rod an unlock the door. Datsun 510 240Z 260z 280z 1600 Door Locks with Keys | eBay My locks are both shot and my options are to find better old ones, do the wire fix on mine, or replace them with new ebay ones. I have a few old ones that might be less worn that my current ones, but they don't work smoothly. Some oil might help, but I haven't tried yet. The wire fix doesn't look too hard, but how long does the fix last before something bends …

I stripped all the undercoating from the underside of the bonnet, and found the two stickers. They don't seem to want to come off, so maybe someone has some tips to persuade a 40 year-old foil sticker to come off? Solvents aren't having any effect, and a metal blade will probably scratch what's underneath.

Hi guys, I am working on replacing my frame rails from the firewall forward. Since the tension rod buckets are mounted to these I will have to either reuse my old ones or get new ones. Does anyone offer these? I'd rather not reuse my old ones as one was from a 280 and the other from a 240...they are different. Not to mention I have caused significant damage to the 240 one when i was trying to remove it without destroying the fenderwell. If you have any ideas or a spare set laying around somewhere I'd be interested to hear about it. Most likely I'll end up fabricating a new set thou. Thanks

Getting ready to install MSA Type II body kit and needing some help or looking for a good previously posted thread. I know that these things can require some slight modifications and work but really looking for advice beyond that. I have looked through a number of psots and have not really found a good thread on installing the body kit. I plan on installing the front and rear pieces only for now. The rear piece apparently had already been installed and has a number of holes drilled. The front piece has no holes. To start the dialogue I have read some threads that talk aout bolting on the parts and others that have used epoxy and some I think both. Thoughts? If bolted …

I have started a conversation with the seller of the stainless bumpers that can be purchased on Ebay as well as a few other parts sites. I have asked what it would take to produce a set that included the bumperettes and associated rubber that goes over them. I have not seen the SS bumpers first hand but I have seen pics online and they look pretty good. What I am curious about is what demand is there for a true correct set of bumpers that were made of steel and chrome plated just like the originals. Nothing beats the look of chrome and I am doing some asking around to determine if enough were made could we get them made cheaper than a set of SS bumpers.

Hello everyone. I am about to dig into my hole under the battery tray and I have a question. Now this might seem stupid but I want to know my options. I am trying to find a source of inexpensive sheet metal and came up with an idea. It is not a new idea but is it an ok idea? Would the sheet metal in a freezer or refrigerator be thick enough to use in the repair. Maybe there is another appliance that would provide a suitable gauge. I see appliances all the time set out for the trash and I have three freezers right now that I could strip down instead of taking them to the scrapper. Thanks. Glen

I'm looking at different rear spoiler options for my 2+2, including may be modifying one made for the coupe. I know the slope of the rear hatch is different on my 2+2 than on the coupe, but I'm not sure about the width. The width of the hatch on my 2+2 is 41 and 3/8 inches. When someone with a coupe gets a minute, could you please let me know the width of the hatch? Thanks Gary

I found a source of the M6 screws that are like the ones you find all over the S30: Steel Class 8.8 Zinc JIS B 1187 - metric-threaded.com They range from 10 to 30mm in length. I think you need some of the yellow ones for some engine parts: Metric JIS Phillips Indented Hex Head SEMS Screws Would these work, or should we Keep looking? What's the 'SEMS' mean?

My Z came to me with the "racing style" door mirrors, and like so many others before me, it fell apart because after years of adjustment, the ball stud pulled through the hole in the adjustable shell part. This left me with the shell housing part completely off in my hand and the mounting half still attached to my door. So with nothing to lose, and for the trivia, I figured out how it originally went together. First, I took the mirror off the door and disassembled it. Looks like this: Typically like so many others, my failure is that ball pulled through the hole: But the tricky part is... How do they get that spherical ball stud installed in the first place? The wh…

My 260z engine is getting finished up within the month, but before I put it back into the car, I would like to get her repainted and all cleaned up. I have a few different ideas and would like everyone's opinion for which paint appears to be the best. My Z has no body mode and I don't plan on any (at this point in time), I plan on getting the bumpers cleaned up and re-chromed once all the paint is taken care of and getting matching side/rear view mirrors. The 3 or 4 ideas that I have are either: 1) Repaint it back to the paint job that is already on the car 2) Shelby style paint job with rally stripes (blue with white stripes) 3) Reverse Shelby style (as I like to c…

Do you think it would be possible to identify this color? http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/3/3540/861/33847930001_large.jpg
