I Have installed a few windows in British cars and this is my second opportunity with a 240Z. So, I don’t have a tremendous amount of experience, but I think this will provide a bit more detail that may help you. Outlined below is a procedure that worked well for me and I hope will help you. Please feel free to correct/improve the process for the next guy. Door Glass Install Install the outside rear view mirror. I installed insulation and sound deadener. I think this helps with noise and temperature control and it also gives the door a bit of added weight improving the feel of the door. I put white lithium grease on the r…

Slow progress continues on the resurrection Z. I have the LF fender removed, ready to install lower patch panel for the rusted out section. A few small pinholes on the top near the headlight bucket will also be handled with a home made patch. The assumed factory undercoat is in great shape on about 70-80% of the fender. The other 20-30% either had no undercoating or what was there has been scaling off the fender surface. Heat gun and scraper is doing a slow but decent job. Under the good undercoat is near perfect factory tannish color primer. I will be coating the fender with some good rust converter and follow up with a rust cover satin black after the converter c…

I decided to create a new topic to continue the discussion regarding factory undercoating and whether primer / paint was used or not. I understand and it makes sense that the factory may have done different things over the years with regard to undercoating so all I can really present and comment on is my 5/72 240z. I would really like to see what @Carl Beck, @26th-Z, @bluezand others think about what I am seeing with my car, relative to what has been written and thought about the topic over the years. My car is a 5/72 240z. It has original 918 orange paint that is in excellent condition. The car shows approximately 24k miles and in every way that I can thin…

Hey Guys, what is the best way to take these off? i am planning to get the car painted. I tried access them from inside by removing the inner panels but no luck. Looking at the new ones they have 3 pins. Should I just use a heat gun and pry them out with a screw drivers? They are a bit beat up too!!!

Hi , I have been unhappy with my 240Z’s bonnet. The top center edge was pointing down quite noticeably. I wanted it lifted up as we have seen it in original, un damaged bonnet. All I have seen old pictures show me beautiful, a bit far from the bumper than the both left and right corners. So , I did it by my self . It is a crazy thing , It was abrupt method. I used a jack with wood pieces to push the top center of the bonnet. Gradually and carefully lifted it up , I was so scare when I was doing it . It turned out quite nicely, I must say I am happy with it. I don’t see any crack or bumpy , shrink surface . I will do some bonnet hinges adjustments, also ma…

Is there a place or publication that I could look for that has an exploded view of a 280Z body ? I'm interested in the disassembly of the front of a 280Z ? I have a 1975 Factory service manual, but it doesn't give you a disassembly sort of view or illustration ?

DISCLAIMER: I did this on a '71 240z - I cannot confirm this works for later models. Preliminary Notes: In searching for new weather-stripping, I came across many forum posts recommending late 90's to early 2000's Kia Sportage weatherstrips. In some of the comment sections there was mention of McMaster-Carr, and one thread dedicated entirely to this stripping. I followed exactly what the guy did in his post, so I am ripping him off, however I thought it'd be worth making a post of my own not only to back up his findings, but also to (hopefully) give this weatherstripping a bit more publicity. Now, I originally had Precision's weatherstripping set, h…

Having bought some more paint recently at eye watering prices, I am considering getting a pro level gun. Tried to do some googling but kept finding the same useless info. Does anyone have any recommendations? Sata, Iwata, DeVilbiss, Tekna, etc...

Good news is, the tail light gaskets on my 72 are in very good shape, they look just as good as the brand new ones I ended up leaving in their wrapping. Bad news is, the lights aren't as fortunate. Anyone dealt with this before? Any advice would be good, be it replacing the lights, using some sort of filler between the flange and gasket or just about anything else. The metal overlay trim that fits over the lights is in great shape so I'm not sure how they got so bad, but speculation won't get me anywhere. Thanks, everyone.

I was in the process of removing my fenders to clean out the dirt underneath and check for rust. Then I realized these side skirt things I have are riveted on, smh.. Guess the only way would be to drill the ~20 rivets out through the body, just curious if anyone else has this piece installed? Maybe it was a dealership option or a previous owner did it, but what a pain..

1973 240z Looking to see if someone could measure from the inside center of the spare wheel to the tail light panel center? Also a pic of the backside of the tail light panel like the ones in pic and underside it would be greatly appreciated! Looks like someone replaced the panel and not sure if the underside is supposed to be spot welded looks like a gap there everything lines up fine on outside debating if I should leave it or repair it. If anyone has any advice or experience let me know Thank you
