Hi all, Newbie here. I recently bought a '77 280z that did not have the side moldings on it. Instead there were the holes in which it is attached to. I was wondering if anyone had any insight on how much this would cost to fix and what kind of work? I imagine they would bondo it over and then try to match the paint? I'll be calling local body shops, but just wanted to check in with the forum. Thank you, IOE

Rather than hijack this thread, I'm starting a new one to ask a dumb question. Were the side-moldings I've see on 280z's an option from the factory? Or did they all have them? Mine doesn't have them, but it's been painted so I figured maybe they were just removed. If they're missing, is it considered better (purist-wise) to put them back on? Or just leave them off? I kind of like it without them. Thanks, Sean.

It says on the webpage significant modifications are required to mount the fiberglass bumpers intended for the 240 and 260 cars on to a 280z. Have any of you successfully mounted those fiberglass bumpers on a 280z? If so how "significant" were the modifications?

Today I discovered something about the hatch latch mechanism that out- right astounded me. Its the LAST thing I would have expected. Its just not logical. Anyone else guess what it might be? Thought I'de turn this into a learning experience. Maybe its a well known thing, we'll see....

Can someone post pix of how/where the front tow hook mounts please? I have the hook (not the flat stock with a hole in it, the actual hook) and need to know where the bolt that holds it in place is located so I can mount it.

Ok, the painting is soon to begin. Still trying to decide on a color but have finally decided not to worry about stock color or look. I am going to purchase a body kit including rear spoiler and looking for suggestions. Currently looking at MSA style 2. I currently do not have front or rear bumpers. I am also leaning towards a modest rear spoiler. Just looking for some options and or photos. I have already had plenty of suggestions on color; however, feel free to comment on that as well. Red and Black are always choices but I am affraid to normal. I also like the light blue color but not sure if it is my personality. My friend are trying to encourage me to paint…

When I went to junkyard, I found 280z 2x2 with beautiful front fender. My '72 240z has dent and rusted. Also it seems like the steel of 280z fender thicker than 240z. When I lean on the my 240z, the fender seems like vending easily. Does anyone know whether 280z fender uses thicker steel metal than 240z? Also, will 280z 2x2 front fender match with 240z? I know 2x2 is longer wheel base and wonder Datsun use same parts with coupe or not. Thanks, tamo3

I am looking to paint some of the engine parts such as the water pump, head ,etc which are supposed to be left natural. I didn't want to use a clear coat since it tends to yellow with heat. I saw on another thread that VHT flat aluminum / aluminum matte was used but some thought it to dull and others used VHT cast aluminum which some thought to bright. Some combined the two spraying one over the other. Anyone find anything else that would work for the natural parts that would stand up to heat ? Anyone use any of the Eastwood products for this application? Thanks, Greg

After going back and forth I have decided to paint my car myself. I have no background in painting but I bought the car to learn and this is another learning opportunity. Wish me luck. Does anyone have a good step by step painting guide, maybe with videos. I am mainly concerned about stripping down to bare metal and repairing a small amount of rust and a few small dents. Soem direction here would be great. I will not be painting the car until the beginning of June. Teacher and have all summer off to get the car looking and running good. Runs good for the most part a few minor things between now and then. Any help or guidance would be appreciated.
