oil cooler

My motor runs hot, and i would like to be able to drive long distance without having to worry about overheating. I've 160 degree thermalstat but it still gets way over those temps after having driven for a while, or jus idling for a while after driving. I've installed a pusher electric fan but have yet to drive my car.

I was wondering if there were any to install an oil cooler or if there were any aftermarket oil coolers out there i can use.

Adding an oil cooler isn't going to cure an overheating problem, you'll first need to address what is causing it to overheat in the first place.

You've got a good start on it, but, you should check the water pump belt, water pump itself, and then the radiator before you spend money on something that will not help your problem. Also, make sure your radiator cap is working properly.

Having someone do a pressure test of the radiator would also be a good idea.

A good flush of the entire cooling system could be all that's needed, and you ought to consider doing this first as it will be the least expensive item that could make a major difference.:ermm:

Timing that is too far advanced can also lead to running hot as well.

it doesnt really over heat. but the temp starts to go over the middle when i idle for a very long time or i've been driving on the freeway for a while. I;ve check the water pump. looks perfect. The belts i can probably replace. The radiator is good. I think one reason y it gets hot when im driving on the freeway is becuzz i believe someone put a 3.9 rear end on the car wit the original 4spd. Well, i'll be driving my car today and will see how the pusher fan helps.

You might check the gague it may not be reading correctly. You cannot always count on the gagues to be that accurate. You may not be overheating but the gague is off. Also the thermostat may be opening late . Check it in a pan of water and a candy thermometer to see when it opens. I use a double boiler so the reading is more accerate. I would do that first. you seem to think that the rad is good so check the thermastat. :classic:

thermalstat is god. it probably has less than a 1000miles one it. I bought it brand new and hasd it in my previous z. and now its in this 77. Well, my overheating problem was solved with the pusher fan. I can sit in traffic all day and still be under the middle line. I can drive long distances at high rpms wit no problems, (4spd wit 3.90). So for now im good with my set up.:classic:
