Whats that pipe?

Im trying to indentify the pipe that sticks out of the block located under the exhaust manifold next to the distributor. It looks like its about six or seven inches in length and has another small pipe coming out of it. The reason why I am asking is because the smaller pipe comming out of it is loose and has play. Should I JB weld it or does the complete pipe come out for me to change? Thanks to all the pro's who can help.

The pipe "can" be removed, but it is a pain to do. It is a "breather" for the block and is used as part of the smog system to remove gases from the combustion process that leak past the piston rings into the sump, and directs them back to the air cleaner so they can be burned again by the engine. I would just clean the loose "smaller pipe" and do the JB Weld thing. Much easier than mucking about with trying to remove the larger pipe and having it welded up or looking for a replacement.

All engines need Crankcase ventilation. It's more a "performance thing" and not a "smog thing" at all. What is done with the gases it ventilates IS a "smog thing".

I suggest you retain all ventilation features. It's your choice what you hook it up to. In the Bad Ol Days, the crankcase breather was connected to a "draft tube" that just spilled out under the car. The end of the tube was cut at a slant, to create a slight vacuum at speed. This system had a side benefit, as your rings wore, you'd get a free undercarriage lube/rustproffing. Needless to say, the draft tube is NOT eco-friendly! Our racers and some of our street machines, hook the block breather up to a "puke can" to keep blowby oil off the track, which the other racers frown upon .

If your engine is healthy, keeping the PCV system is a good thing. a little negative crankcase pressure helps overall performance and ring sealing.

Better check that one US240Z. Sounds like you've got a closed loop system. Not the prefered method for venting an engine.
