Air Box color...

Howdy,

Have noticed a couple of 72-73 air boxes that are blue ..almost a Carolina blue in color. What's the deal with orange versus blueboxes......

Searched "blue air box" with no luck

One on a ahem...very clean car advertised as 40-50000 mile 73 240...but with early SUs.

As far as I know, the blue air cleaners are from 260's. All the air cleaners up to 73 were orange. If I'm not mistaken, the 260 air cleaners were the same color as the later 280 air cleaners, but perhaps it's a little different shade.

I think I know which car you are referring to, isn't that the 73 with the round top carbs and a blue air cleaner being advertised as "all original"?

I found this auction to be some interesting reading. This guy pretty much tells it like it is. It's a shame not everyone describes their car like this guy.

Nice car too, even if it is an auto.

Then there's one bleow it listed as a 70, which, according to the VIN is an 11/70 build date. More than likely titled as a 71, but yet he lists it as a 70. So, is he trying to fool someone or just doesn't know any better?

I've seen 2 of these cars,the 73 on ebay a while back and another car "71" again on ebay with a blue air box...same style as the 71-72 air box w/the summer winter flapper....if these did come on the 260 it would explain things,because I know nothing in relative terms about 260s......

Sorry 2ManyZ's, just feeling a little frisky. Looks like a very nice car, but as you say the automatic is the only drawback. I've never driven an automatic Z nor would I really want to.....I guess.

I can't vouch for the originality of the airbox from my 260Z, but it is orange. My Z was built in early '74, so maybe the early 260s shared the orange airboxes of the '73s.

Interestingly both cars I've seen had early SUs installed,I figured the 260 had the square or should I say not round carb inlet. Might still not prohibit the install of early carbs..... Can't find any 260 engine PICS without dome tops...

I don't know if I'm correct in my "arse-umption" here, but I think the early 260's with the small 73 type bumpers may have all had the orange air cleaners that were the same as the 73 air cleaners. Perhaps the air cleaner color changed when they put the large 280 style bumpers on.

Notice, this car has the late bumpers and a "blue-ish" air cleaner.

How did that get on those 240s?....30 year old car bound to have been owned by a Tarheel fan at one time maybe:classic:

Interested in hearing others on this, I'd bet common knowledge stuff to the 260 guys.

I've seen both blue and red air cleaners on an early 260. The Blue was on 2+2. My question is, were there any decals on the original early or 74.5 260 air cleaners, any pictures. Both Banzai Motors and Zeddsavers skip over them and don't have any info.

By the way I would check out Zeddsaver.com he seems to be very eger to please and to get established. He made a good 1st impression, in the emails we exchanged, he plans to expand his Z decal line and other products in 2005. I'm hoping he'll fill the void MidwestZ left in customer service and parts delivery. Time will tell.
