I am looking around for aftermarket seats to go into my 240 and thought I would ask you guys whether you have had good results with any particular make or model. I am thinking of putting skyline seats. Anyway it would be great if you people could let me know what you've done.

I've heard good stories about Mazda MX5 (Miata) seats. Word has it that they are a good fit if you install them with their original runners.

They come with bonus built in speakers too.

edited to add:

This link has some info on 240SX seats which I believe are the same as the 180SX

Im thinking of getting some aftermarket seats also... but want brand new race style seats like either sparco, Saas, Monza etc... anything that I can get locally and something that fits without any major modifications. Does anyone know of any brands that fit in a z ?

Sparco sells what they call universal base mounts, does this mean If I want to install sparco seats and they dont fit the mounts I can take out the original mounts in my 260z and install their mounts to make the seats fit? Heres the Link

If you have any contacts, or know people who have contacts in japan, you might want to check out the yahoo auction sites.. recaro, sparco, etc all have seat rails for the Z there..

I guess this means you could probably order them from the companies as well..

just do a search for S30 and a bucketload of stuff will come up! Can spend waaay too much time browsing through it all!

axcelr8,

FYI.....I have the entry level SPARCO race seats ( approx $200.00 ea) in my 240Z. I did not use the seat runners because I didn't want my head that close to the headliner. I'm of average height (5' 10") and was able to properly position my seats so the distance to the pedals was correct (mainly the drivers seat of course) using the stock Z seat mounting cross braces. The mounting studs on the SPARCO seats allowed me to just redrill holes in the cross brace. I even used some of the original spacers under the seats to aquire the desired seat angle. Be aware, these seats are not the easiest seats to get in and out of but once your in them and strapped in.....you are just part of the car....your not going to move around at all.....a very good thing for performance. Pretty easy install and really cheap for new seats. Hope this helps you a little. I love mine anyway!!!

P.S. If you have a wife or girl freind with a wide rear end, they're not going for a ride with you in these seats!!! No disrespect intended ladies, just the facts. Oh, I might pay for that one:finger:

Thanks guys.

i did a search and theres plenty of stuff there to keep me busy for a while.

240ZX nice setup, any problems with the seats at all or are they much better in both look and feel than the original seats? Any pics?

axelr8,

The SPARCO seats I have installed are a model called the "SPRINT". Like I mentioned earlier, Sparco calls these their entry level race seat (their #1 seller) and utilize a steel tube framework as opposed to their more expensive fiberglass and or kevlar seats. One difference between the two styles is that the tube frame type mount via the bottom and the kevlar/fiberglass units mount via side brackets. I absolutely love the fit and comfort of the Sprint seats. Compared to the original seats, and of course this is subjective, there is no comparison. IMO the Sparco Sprint seats look way cool and better yet.....are comfortable as a pair of kid gloves. Would I do it again if given the opportunity? Yes!

Vipar Z,

actually looking at SAAS enforcer seats atm... i'll tell u how i go..

*shrugs*

was looking at all the jap auctions.. but i dunno bout using second hand seats anymore.. just doesn't seem appealing for some reason! hehe

anyways.. bout to call SAAS and see what they have to say as they sell universal adapters, but being 2+ metres tall i need the seats lower if anything.. They might sell universal adjustable rails that are lower or something as well? Ah well, find out soon!

Axelr8.... Regarding Seats

Have a look at my Gallery.

I have installed SPARCO seats in my 240Z. They fit with a few mm's to spare, and do not rub or touch the trim of the car.

You can use the factory seat runners, but you will have to make up some brackets to attach the seat to the runner.

These seats were not cheap... the price is not for the faint hearted.
