2ManyZs Posted February 13, 2004 Share #2 Posted February 13, 2004 Yup, you'll need the lower transverse link as the 280 has a curve in it to clear the rear diff cover.

V8-240Z Posted February 13, 2004 Share #4 Posted February 13, 2004 Gary,What your talking about is a rear transverse link brace thatis curved. Your 240 should already have a curved one on it.Only the 70-71 had the straight ones.

Mr Camouflage Posted February 15, 2004 Share #6 Posted February 15, 2004 My lower rear transverse link from the a 1972 240z (R180) is Identical to the lower rear transverse link from my 75 260z (R200) (which is the same as a 280z apart form the l26 engine). See pics. The Black painted one is from a R180, The old looking one is from teh R200. Even the upright link that joins it to the chasis are the same. 240ZX Posted February 17, 2004 Share #8 Posted February 17, 2004 I used the original straight link from my 1970 when I did my R200 conversion and it works just fine. However, there is about 1/8" clearance between the diff cover and the link. Of course, I had to use the proper front diff support and mustach bar. I used an R200 diff and drive axles out of a 1981 to 83 280ZX. I did have to shorten the passenger side drive axle 1/2" so it would not bind when fully collapsed. It is a simple job for a good machine shop. My conversion worked out perfectly.
beandip Posted February 18, 2004 Author Share #9 Posted February 18, 2004 Well Mr Camo. my transvers link is stright not curved and the car is a '73 built 8/73 which is the build date of the '74 also. Go figure. That SHOWS TO GO YA , YOU CANT COUNT ON THINGS TO BE WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE . Supprised be too. :stupid:
Mr Camouflage Posted February 18, 2004 Share #10 Posted February 18, 2004 The guys in the nissan production line must have had a few left over straight bars they had to use up.
