February 24, 200421 yr comment_69808 Yes, there are a lot of the gear reduction starters in the junk yards. Most of them are rebuilts at this point, but I found a relatively new (at the time) Nissan rebuilt unit and it has worked flawlessly for years. February 25, 200421 yr comment_69821 After buying a stater at Chief Auto Parts, having it act up in two weeks, I went back and exchanged it. The replacement did the same thing in about a month. I went to the junkyard and pulled 5 280ZX starters, took them over to the tester, selected the best one and it's im my 78 280Z. Still going strong 6 years later! February 25, 200421 yr comment_69854 Hi Zrush,If your (or Scotts) starter is having trouble cranking the engine it may be worth checking the condition of your earth lead. If the engine is not making a good earth it can have the symptoms of a weak battery or starter.Just a thought.Rusty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/10257-higher-compression-harder-the-start/?&page=2#findComment-69854 Share on other sites
