Higher Compression, Harder the Start?

Yes, there are a lot of the gear reduction starters in the junk yards. Most of them are rebuilts at this point, but I found a relatively new (at the time) Nissan rebuilt unit and it has worked flawlessly for years.

After buying a stater at Chief Auto Parts, having it act up in two weeks, I went back and exchanged it. The replacement did the same thing in about a month. I went to the junkyard and pulled 5 280ZX starters, took them over to the tester, selected the best one and it's im my 78 280Z. Still going strong 6 years later!

Hi Zrush,

If your (or Scotts) starter is having trouble cranking the engine it may be worth checking the condition of your earth lead. If the engine is not making a good earth it can have the symptoms of a weak battery or starter.

Just a thought.
