the Palm Beach Barrett - Jackson Auction shows a 1970 240z lot number 322 just for info for anyone , gonna try and go down for the auction myself and window shop , but just thought some might be interested , the 260z from the Arizona auction shows to have brought 5300 , love to see more up there to increase the interests and desire to restore them

I agree it's nice to see Z's taken seriously at the auctions.

On the other hand, have you ever watched the barret jackson on tv? I cant belive what some people are willing to pay for some machines. I find that to be the most upsetting part of the "collectoer car" market. i think alot of fake bidding goes on by proxy bidders so the suckers end up paying out huge amounts for totally stupid vehicles.Example, how about a 62 Cadillac, orignal condition but not super low miles for 60 thousand dollars?

We may regret the day or inexpensive Z's are pushing such astronomical levels, in terms of insuring them or repairing them.

Our cars should be valued what they're worth, but collectors make the market, and often ruin it for real people. Electric guitars are going through the same thing. Japanese collectors are shipping 1960 Fender sratocasters back to japan. The guitars are bringining in tens of thousands of dollars, but are not being played, just collected by investors. It sucks.

I've always liked to watch the B/J auctions, but sometimes you gotta wonder how knowledgeable they are about the cars! I was watching one of the shows when these two particular Mustangs where being auctioned off and they were being called 1969's when actually they were 1970 models. Come on, anyone with knowledge of Ford Mustangs knows that the 69's were the only Mustang that ever had dual headlights.....one set of headlights within the grille and the other set outboard of the grille. The 70's had the headlights within the grille only with two little slot like fake vents where the 69's outboard lights were!!! Oh well, I suppose we all make mistakes now and then........but hopefully not when that kind of $$$ is involved!!!

I've wondered how much access potential bidders have to the cars beforehand. I certainly wouldn't want to bid on a car solely based on what I can see from my seat as the car is rolled across the stage.

I inspected that white '71 240Z before and after it went on the stage auction block Sat morning in West Palm Beach, Fl. The VIN number was about 15, 800 and had South Carolina plates on it. It was recently painted and looked good at a distance. However, I suspect it was victim of front end crash since hood fit was horrible and both left and right fenders were rippled along inside edge that runs parallel to hood when closed. It was far from purist stock ....... not original engine, ran webers, no distributor .... electronic system triggered off crank, griffin radiator, electric fans, 5-speed, '72 or later interior console, classic rust under battery (engine compartment was not repainted), etc. Did have new tires mounted on Panasport rims. It sold for about $9,000 which blew me away.

However it must have been a bargain compared to the '68 Shelby Mustang GT Coupe that sold for $175,000 and the '56 Mercedes 300 Gullwing that fetched $302,000.

and then there were auction fees on top of the selling price! Geez, I need to start collecting Z's to auction.

$9K.......for a Z without original engine, with rust, poor panel fit, and rust...............incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 8% premium goes down with the final price. I think after 300,000 , there is no premium.

It looks like I bought my car froim the wrong place!

I could have gone to Palm Springs (not too far from where I got my car) and bought a car that was in MUCH better condition, then drive it home!

speaking of cars priced wrong. there this guy selling a toyota spider used with front end damage for 150 grand. gees why do ppl pay that much for cars(i could see that for a zROFL )

It's the same reason people will pay you $10 million a YEAR to play baseball or basketball, or the reason people will pay $25 to go see those millionaires!

What a waste. That's why I watch sports on TV. FREE. $25 pays for cable for a whole month, or a bunch of pizzas & sodasfor the game, or enough gas for my Z for a day.
