good songs, but for some reason, I just couldn't see myself listening to those while going 90 MPH down the highway...

singing Songs like:

"Hold the Line. ..I wasn't breaking in time"

LOL

Georgy Porgy

Can You Hear What I'm Saying

Ninety Nine

All good tunes!

They're a bit soft for my liking of road tunes. To me they're more of a story teller band. Kinda like Jim Croche. I prefer to listen to them at home.

How about Downchild Blues Band:

Dew Drop Inn

Old Ma Bell

That may be true although the 'Animal' tune kind of cranks, but I would hardly lump Toto with Jim Croche. A lot of bands are story teller bands. Like Steely Dan. You just have to understand the story!

We started out trying to get some songs together to accompany the excitement and joy one gets while driving ones Zed. Whether your hair is on fire or not. Until now, all the suggestions have had much energy and excitement. While you can't just omit a band in general, you have to admit that just about every one has songs the are better and worse fits to out goal.

Take Styx as an examnple. "Blue Collar Man" would fit out goal, while "Babe" ouldn't. (Referring to the 'road-racing' theme). It might be better to fit the latter song into a 'cool-down' list.'

The thread actually started out with gema's request "...I want to try and 'experience' the Z as I would have in the 70's. So, all you old-timers...if you could pick two or three albums for me to listen to while I drive/work on the 240z, which would they be, and why?"

To make it truly as he would have experienced it in the 70's and if he wants us to pick "two or three albums" I guess he'll have to install an 8 track player so he can experience the "fade out, click-click, fade in" sounds as the track changes right in the middle of a song. Also don't forget to wedge that matchbook under the 8 track to "adjust" the tracking.LOL

Any kind of roadhouse blues for me. I'm out for blood when I'm in the Z. Except I play the music in my head. No radio, tape or CD player in my car.

Don't mean to offend but I have never been able to figure out the attraction with U-2 except that somehow lousy song writing, playing and singing somehow make them popular. I need to change the station when one of their tunes comes on (except for that BBKing blues tune they do, I like that one).

It doesn't exactly make you want to drive the Z the way it was meant to be driven but the it's still great!

Black Friday, Reeling In The Years, Bodisatva, Parker's Band, etc. The Dan has a lot of tunes that crank!

How about anything off of Bostons first album. That's pure drivin' tunes. Frampton is also great. Speaking of 8-tracks, my first one was the Pioneer Supertuner with the big round dial, remember those. Who also remebers the FM Converter?

Hey, I've still got the original 8 track/AM/FM radio that came with my 280z from the dealership. I'm not sure if it's "factory" or not, but it worked when I swapped it out for a cassette/AM/FM unit.

I inherited my Z, so I don't know if the original radio was an add-on or stock unit.

Hey GunnerRob, that's way cool that you still have that 8-track AM/FM radio from your Z. Is it a Hitachi? I think that's what Datsun put in the cars...........let me check my 72 240Z....hold on. Yep, it's a Hitachi (at least mine is)

I think the original radios are one of the hardest things to find because that's normally the first thing people change when they get the car.
