September 4, 200420 yr comment_93760 I don't BELIEVE IT !!!!!!!! You blokes have been talking about some terrific groups and solo artists BUT when you're talking about artists of the late 60's and 70's, you've left out some very obvious, high profile performers, namely; Elvis, Gene Pitney, Roy Orbison and B.J. Thomas to name a few. Oh, shame, shame, SHAME be upon you for leaving The King himself off your list. Rick. :devious: :devious: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/10417-z-music/?&page=8#findComment-93760 Share on other sites

September 6, 200420 yr comment_94010 Hey Will,All his movies were inflicted upon us here in The Land Down Under too mate. What a bloody AWFUL actor he was. He had a damned good voice though.Gene Pitney recorded a couple of songs relating to cars and driving;"Last Exit To Brooklin" (spelling????) or might have been "Last Chance to Turn Around" (It was a long time ago).and"Trans Canada Highway"Rick. May 3, 201014 yr comment_318078 I know this is old as dirt, but when I can finally get my Z out onto the highway, the first song I will be playing is AC/DCs "Riff Raff". And then, to be period correct, probably some Iggy and the Stooges, maybe a bit of Cream (NSU!), and then I'd have to pull over and decide which of Black Sab's 1970- 1974 releases would be next. And that would take a while, because I love ALL those albums Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/10417-z-music/?&page=8#findComment-318078 Share on other sites

We had an 8-track in our home system when I was growing up- even at 8 years old I thought, man, these things are crap! I'll be cruisin' 80s po-folks style, with a boombox in the back, for a while. May 3, 201014 yr comment_318082 I have listened to this song my entire adult life and still get the thrills everyting I listen to it. A few months ago I found this clip on youtube and even from back in the 70's this song hits home today - This song was fantastic in the early 70's and holds even truer today...........REO Speedwagon Golden Country - 1972 - REO/TWO.........one of the most under-rated guitar players of all time. Put this in your 8 track and play it loud! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/10417-z-music/?&page=8#findComment-318082 Share on other sites
May 3, 201014 yr comment_318129 Appropriate music for a 70's Z (in my opinion, which is all that matter to me):Genesis, Pink Floyd, Yes, The Who, Led Zepplin, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Eagles, Neil Young, Peter Frampton, and Styx. May 3, 201014 yr comment_318131 A few on my prefered list would be: Freeway Jam, Jeff Beck White Buffalo, Ted Nuggent Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, Traffic Long Time, Boston Karn Evil #9, Emerson. Lake & Palmer Fool for the City, Foghat Funeral for a Friend, Elton John Bohemiem Rhapsody, Queen Twilight Zone, Golden Earring Spirit in the Sky, Norman Greenbaum (this is a must for that true 70's feel) The 8-track is near and dear to my heart. It was the only personal music machine for us at that time. I was lucky enough to have a 'Lear' unit, still looking for one to this day. 8-track was invented by Bill Lear of 'Lear Jet' fame. The story goes, (in Stormy Genius) Bill flies to Muncie, IN on business and is shown an endless tape player called the Muncie 4-track. It played left & right on 2 tracks of 1/4 inch tape a 3/ 3/4 ips. but only for about 15 to 20 minutes then the loop started over. He knew he could do better so he bought a plane load of them and brought them back to his plant in Wichita. He and his crew set out to get at least twice the amount of music on that tape. Thus they were able to get the head to read twice the amount and got 8-track. His company produced them for about 6 months then sold all the rights. His are clearly marked 'Lear'. 8-track had its heyday for a while. The tapes can be removed from the cartrige and played on a reel to reel. Later the cassette tape came out in better qualities, 1/2 the 8-track width and half the speed, 1 7/8 ips. I still have my 8-track collection, just waiting for that 'Lear'.
