moyest Posted February 27, 2004 Share #1 Posted February 27, 2004 Hi all,I'm still wondering how to stop my carbs (and fuel) from heating too much.My exhaust headers run too close to my carb set-up, so I need to find some headers that bend down more sharply (and don't run out underneath my carbs).More background: mine are TRIPLE carbs on a TWM manifold, and my non-standard exhaust manifold is a 6:3:1 set-up (from memory??).I've heard about "Pacemaker" headers, "Clifford Research" headers, "MSA"... but I'm just not sure whether these are all roughly the same shape or radically different?Any advice for a punter like me?? :stupid:
hls30.com Posted February 27, 2004 Share #2 Posted February 27, 2004 Try a heatshield and injector fans from and EFI L28! They are cheep, the fit like a stock part, and they are plentiful, polishable, and genuine Nissan parts! Will
zeiss150 Posted February 27, 2004 Share #3 Posted February 27, 2004 Hey, the original SU's come with a heat sheild, mabe you could fabricate a heat shield between your carbs and header befor you invest in a new header, or just switch back to the bitchn SU's . Just kidding im sure your tripples are bitchn too. By the way how do you know there getting how, what's happening? Matt-
sblake01 Posted February 27, 2004 Share #4 Posted February 27, 2004 I would steer away from the ZX injector coolers. It's always been questionable to me if they really accomplish anything plus that's one more electrical accessory your system has to deal with. The 280Zs didn't have them. The 810s and Maximas didn't have them. I just wonder why the ZXs did. Just one more gadget on a car overrun with gadgets. (I don't mean yours, I'm talking about the ZX). I would try a heat shield and/or some of that insulating header wrap.
Ed Posted February 27, 2004 Share #5 Posted February 27, 2004 The headers coated with Jet-Hot supposedly reduce underhood temps.
trs Posted February 27, 2004 Share #6 Posted February 27, 2004 fujitsubo old car series. just another option if you want to spend more $$. I would also recommend some form of ceramic coating* from memory the local exhaust shops quote about 3-400 dollars for exterior coating on a set of headers. *ok the pic didn't work too well. but here is the website: http://www.fujitsubo.co.jp/mc-prod/psrs-v.php3?id=00000090
hls30.com Posted February 28, 2004 Share #7 Posted February 28, 2004 The '72 I am going to rest-mod has tripple webbers on it, it was running the other day. The car was run with that setup for many years, and to my knowledge there was no problem with gas boiling out of the bowls. I will look at its' headers next time I go for a visit! byunique Posted June 3, 2007 Share #9 Posted June 3, 2007 Header wrap can cause moisture to gather, eventually causing your headers to rust and blow holes. Do the heat shield for sure.
=Enigma= Posted June 3, 2007 Share #10 Posted June 3, 2007 Header wrap can cause moisture to gather, eventually causing your headers to rust and blow holes. Do the heat shield for sure. Moyest hasn't posted on here in a year and a half, and this thread is over 3 yrs old so I'm pretty sure he's no longer worried about this.
240ZGL Posted June 3, 2007 Share #11 Posted June 3, 2007 Fujitsubo has the copy of the Datsun comp. header. I have an original set. The center carb runs very close to the tubes if your using a short Mikuni manifold. If you have the Mikuni's or Dellorto's they have a bottom accelerator pump, so a heat shield is out of the question because you have to bend it around the tubes. If you have the Cannon manifold, you might be able to get away with it. I'm doing a ceramic coat and wrapping the two center tube for the first 12". I have the MSA header too. That one has plenty of bend in it to fab a nice heat shield. The Cannon manifold is about an inch longer. If you running Webers, they have a bottom mount heat shield you can buy for each carb.
