animated avitars slow net?

No, I'm not suggesting that you change it. Where I live we do not have access to broadband. To make matters worse, we have fairly bad phone lines. The best connection I can get is about 33k. When I go to my brother's house and use his computer, things load almost instantly. It wasn't so much I was complaining about animated avitars or large pictures, more so that I was complaining about my connection. In a few months, we'll be in a different area and all will be good.

Cheers.

As far as my connection, (dial up) I do find that those animated avatars do cause the mouse to jump and react differently as well.

Being selfish, I would ask for the non-animated avatar, but since I don't have broadband and I know the majority of folks out there do, I've just learned to muddle along.

P.S.: Although my avatar is "animated" also, I've only noticed the slow down on the movie style ones.

I'm currently using a slow, dial-up connection. I see your avitar loading up one image at a time and then playing back in full glory after the load. While it is doing this I can scroll around and do other things on the page.

In other words, it doesn't have a negative impact on my internet experience and once loaded is a lot of fun. More power to animated avitars!!

Well, I would put iut this way....

It took a minute+ to view your attachment, so if you used it as an avatar, it would take an extra minute to wait before you could start reading messages.

Something smaller, like a smiley, would be almost unnoticeable, and take probably an extra sec or 3 to load- no big deal there.

Its quite simple really to get custom avitars... Just goto the "forum" tab at the top of the page. Goto "User CP" then "edit options" and down the bottom change your avitar. To get it custom you must have a picture ready on your hard-drive that is no bigger than 150x150 pixels. Goto browse and select it.

The way I did mine was I downloaded a video of the supra, put it in a program that allowed me to take still images while veiwing the movie and then put them all together in "animation shop"! Simple!:stupid:

Gee, you americans must have pretty bad phone lines! I live in an old area of perth and I still get goodish connection, about 44kbs-49kbs!

Cheer'z'

It takes a while to load. You could probably reduce the file size a bit.

I used to have an animated avatar that i made, but for some weird reason my work computer would slow down while displaying it. I'd move the mouse, and there would be a delay. Its a fast computer (faster than my home pc which had no problems displaying it). So changed to a non animated avatar.

My work computer almost has an embolism trying to open a new window.

Maybe because it's a non 3d accelerated graphics card.

It's not an overall problem. In the area where I live, we have very few cellular towers (bad cell phone reception), we're too far from the nearest telephone switching station (longer phone lines=slower connections for regular phones and no chance for dsl), and underground cable (more difficult and costly to set up for cable internet). These are the things that the various company officials have told me over the 4+ years I have lived here. All I was was originally trying to say is that MY connection was slow. Looking through the responses, I wish I hadn't brought it up!:stupid:
